So my car is in for a service this morning at BmW clearwater. Just got phoned now to say that the noise i am complaining about coming from my front wheels(sounds like they falling off!) is actualy noise coming from my aftermarket exhaust(which i hav had for the whole year and no noise untill recent!) and also to say that my brakes are in good condition and doesnt need replacing, because i asked them to check brakes. Please see picture and tell me if you guys think this bloody bmw technician knows what he is saying?

seems like you need to change brake disk/pads

caliper misaligned - mighy be caused by wheel bearing been stuffed now pushing the wheel hub.

Take him for a ride in the car & then let him show you where the exhaust is touching. :bangdesk: Some techs are just plain lazy.

I know they are damaged! Thats why i asked them to check and then they phoned and said brakes are fine no need to change. Wtf!! Also why is brakes damaged like that, coz doesnt help i put new ones and then same problem just occurs becauze of bearings or misalignment etc. now i dont feel comfortable with them replacing my brakes because they cant even see a clear problem!!

Twinz my point is BMW IS F&$&ing PATHETIC. I dont have time to go and drive with him. The car is there for a scheduled service appointment and i specifically asked check brakes. You can clearly see it with your eye if you just look at the brakes. And i am pying alot of money for this service coz car out of motorplan!!

If you are under motorplan, i would suggest you ask them to replace the wheel hub.

Your issue is caused by wheel bearing. It very loose. You can even take it out without pressure. Then it is causing the caliper to touch the disk.

Shocking. I would call the DP.

Regardless I would not trust them to do anything further - take the car to someone that knows what is what.

I would speak to the service manager and complain about the mech, as you said you are paying good money for your car out of plan and this is the crappy service you are getting.

Next time take it somewhere else where the members recommend like tune tech or Duncan Ross in the north

Edmundp beat me to it :)

in fairness to the dealer normally one front and one rear are removed to check for wear. it looks like your pads picked up something or were a factory flaw to do that damage i don't believe it has anything to do with the hub or bearing. a service with brakes carried out properly can take time and at average prices of around R700.00 per hour can add up really quick. i would advise since you are out of motor plan to find a really good independent workshop to do the maintenance work. just remember no one is infallible and we all occasionally overlook things.
take doctors they cost even more get half the diagnosis from us and charge for a repeat visit because they miss diagnosed and we seldom complain.

I would say that potentially the caliper is sticking/seizing. That may cause the pads to wear unevenly. I would say remove the wheel and try get some pics looking at the caliper from directly above.

Mate take it somewhere else. Those discs are definately gone. Try another dealer or even a good independent RMI approved workshop.

Nice analogy, but in all fairness, saying the brakes are fine when they look like that is like a doctor finding a knife through a persons head and telling him to go home and take 2 aspirins cos its fine...

If the car is out of Motorplan, then an RMI approved workshop is not a necessity.

All the comments of wheel bearing could be true, any acceptable workshop should be able to tell you this when the wheel is off the ground by gentle pushes or tugs to check....

Alternatively

It could also be that the brake caliper has become dislodged due to a lose or missing bolt or two., or worse (but unlikely) the brake caliper/mountings has cracked/broken and dislodged.

If the disc has still got plenty of meat left on it, and if the scouring isn't to deep, the discs can be skimmed...
we do disc skimming whilst the disc is still on the car, provided the disc still has enough thickness

Wow, that is shockingly bad, but sad to say, becoming more and more the case with dealers!

Rather take the car somewhere else, and if not under motorplan to a brake specialist.
