BMW Service / Motorplan

Compliments for 2013 !!

A friend of mine got back from a road trip from JHB to CPT and back and booked her e90 320d for it's 15,000km service.

The problem is her odo is on 17,400km... now BMW want her to fork out R5.5k to perform a quality control check before reinstating her motorplan.

Clearly not a great welcome home gift.

The dealership is not interested in helping her, nor are the being helpful in pointing her in the right direction to take up the issue with BMW SA head office or someone within their Motorplan division.

Realistically does she have any chance of getting some respite from BMW SA, maybe a reduction in the charge or anything?

Thanks guys

David

She was speaking to Melrose Arch

She received a much better response out of Bruma... offered R1.9k for the quality check, then replacement of some part as preventative maintenance (within the sump by the sounds of it but she couldn't tell me what it was!) taking it to R4k.

BMW SA must love any non mechanically minded person that buys their cars

Which dealer did she buy it from?

I think its about 1400 kms from JHB to CT so about 2800kms for a round trip so the service light probably only went on while in CT. Maybe a story about how she thought she had to service it at the place she bought it so she waited till she got back?

 Look its not a nice thing but in todays times I think the majority of us are educated enough to understand the documents we sign anywhere now - its a legal binding document and with todays laws the agent would have gone through every aspect including the service intervals and what it implies to miss the scheduled, they are covering thier asses making sure you understand it all.

I know from experience of this as 6 months ago I paid cash for an AUDI - and before they released the car to me I had to sit through the whole story as it was law.

:nonono: I dont think she will have any luck at the other dealers as they are now in between Motorplan and the client on this, but I wish her luck non the less by posibly talking to another dealer and see if they can squeeze it in. but i think they all they same.

Not trying to be difficult, but another thing to think of is, that the car warns you, and all manufacturers allows for 1000km over or so, a friend even lost his warranty from Ford for going to far over. We all should know this by now.

I was in Jeffreys and headed to Cape town, car showed 1500km for breaks and service, so on my way called the best dealership in Cape town (SMG) booked the car in the morning at 7h30, and car was done by 13h00. They squeezed me in, as I have far to drive back.

The limit is 1000 -1500km , depending on manufacturer. From what I hear, an inspection and engine flush is mandatory when a service interval is beyond 1500km, so unfortunately she will have to pay.

Hectic, didn't know it was that strict, was almost in the same situation, but thankfully the trip from JHB to Durbs is only about 600kms. (so was about 300kms over the service interval)

Had the same fight with Motorite with my mums Honda Accord. It was 800km over the service interval. They refused to pay. Found in the maintenance plan contract that the allowance is 1500km. Told them to suck it and honour the contract.
Then they tried to be sneaky and pointed out the 30 000km service was done 500km over its schedule (by the previous owner mind you). Told them to suck it again, that service was covered by Honda (their allowance is 1500km as well) and had no effect on the maintenance plan we had taken and extended on the car.

thanks for all the comments

Yeah she knows she made the mistake, but naturally would like to minimize the pain!

She has phoned around and seems like she'll end up paying R2.9K. Amazing the different level of service, courtesy etc exhibited by the various dealerships. Attitude can make whatever the cost seem either way worse or palatable.

This Motorplan is very frustrating IMO.......had a similar issue last year, my wife was only 370km past the warning light, car went in, (after getting warned that her Motorplan could be cancelled) all that was done was coolant flush and new brake pads fitted.......that oil story is bull, todays oils are so good, 1500km past a change warning is nothing, but BMW like to be anal.......if you see you are going on a long trip and ask them to change the oil under Motorplan a few hundred km before it is required, they refuse.....you are kinda expected to find a dealer en route and have it done, no matter that it might cost you a day of your holiday time.......My car is way out of Motorplan, if I see it is going to require an oil change halfway through a trip, I can do a full service before I leave......

I had mine done this week, wanted it done at 2000km as I was going down to the coast and rack up around 2000km. They refused and said earliest was below 1000km.

Oils are good but not that good. I service my car every 12 500km or 15 000km. So I do a in between service and pay for it. SMG had a special for R650 oil and filter.

My 2009 325i does not use a drop of oil to date between this services. Tells me somthing seeing how much oil other guys are using. I also had my Transmission oil changed at 45 000km. and ill do gearbox oil change at 80 000km. Pay that little extra and save in the long run

Any Technical guy will tell you it will only do good and I can see its paying off already

my m/p is finished so can get it serviced when it suits me,also had the same problem as andy where the light came on saying service 2500km,they refuse to service it untill it reads under a 1000km.last service,a week ago,the reading also said 2000km left, and all of a sudden,no problem we can service it.

had this mishap on a caddy bakkie, wanted to charge me R2000 as a penalty,to keep the warranty, but a service only cost R659 at the time, told them to get stuffed, and keep there warranty:rollsmile:
