bmw oem fliters.

So this past week I have been getting the parts ready for the oil changes on my 2 M''s and my daily 316 e36.I decided to try Ravenol oil after all the years of using liquid-moly on the M cars because it is basically the same price and I reasoned that Ravenol is a newer product.
Now I had to purchase oil filters for the M's and because I read this forum and listen to the inner voice telling me how much I love these cars it had to be OEM FILTERS for the 2 Mcars and Gwagen for the 316 [330 k's and as trusty and as economical as ever].
So OEM for the M3's which after much arguing I got for r270 each with club discount.
Now got home with these filter [the r65 one for the 316] and the OEM FOR THE m3's .
Checked first the Mahle made filter of the 316 and thought but this looks vaguely the same [not in size] to the M3's filter .
Took out the OEM filter of them cars and could immediately see that this was the same products made in the same factory in Austria , with the one just having a BMW stamp on it , took make things worse the plastic containing the washers had the exact same serial numbers except for the date of production.
Now very upset at having to fork out over r300 for the M cars filters I took the filter to some Bmw and other mechanics in the area , and all agreed these filters are the exact same filters quality wise even including the made in Austria.
I know some guys probably love the M' cars more than me but hell to pay almost 6Times more the price for the same product just because it is in a Bmw box with a BMW stamp over the MAHLE stamp as M tax is daylight robbery .
I don't think I will be buying OEM filters again whilst I can get the Mahle made filter at a fraction of the price , false economy that , I can rather use the difference to purchase a litre or two of oil

But you basing the pricing difference on the fact that a 316 oil filter is the same price as the oil filter to an M car?
Are you saying that GW sells the M3 oil filter also for R65?

I not ask enquire for the M3 filters at Gwagen because I always bought OEM , however for comparison purposes the 316i e36 filter cost r290 at the dealers with my discount. I probably could force them to give to me for the same price as the M3 one after much arguing. I will find out what the M3 ones cost at Gwagen , that is the MAHLE filter , wont be interested in other makes of fliters.

Interesting Observation and thanks for the feedback.

Is Mahle only available at GoldWagen?
