BMW M4 Fatal Crash

Down the road from my place. I drove past on sat morning about 7am, just from the pavement, tree and road damage I could see there had been a bad one earlier. NOt the best place to speed at all!.. Entrance to mini mall and busy crossing 50m further. From what we pieced together and this is speculation.. he had been racing a bike which fled the scene. Driver was a local businessman who owned a body building Nutrition place. Looks like he had the car 2 or 3 weeks.

Sad to see such tragic loss of life and carnage. May all rest in peace.

How many M3/M4's have crashed already, are any of them members on the forum?

Crazy accident with an unnecessary loss of innocent life. Condolences to all the impacted families.

Despite what two of the posters above said, "speeding" is not intrinsically bad or dangerous. The issue is poor driver discipline, training, driving skills and plain stupidity. Racing around town is just the dumbest behaviour possible. Wait for the open (or at least clear) road or like-minded traffic on a closed circuit before putting your foot down.

My guess and this is only a guess is that car must of been going around 120 there, judging by the tree it hit.
The road is fairly straight, but does dip and rise again... At that speed it would be easy to lose control of the car after a bounce or 2...

But just speculation as i said.
Condolences to all involved and let this hopefully teach people to keep racing /driving fast at the tracks.
I know it opened my eyes

I haven't driven the F30 M3/M4 but have read the rear damping can be caught out on undulating roads; drove an E92 335i on a poor road recently at some speed and was completely unnerved by the lack of control at the back - the same road in my E46 M3 with Bilsteins went by unnoticed.

Not saying the driver was not at fault. He was.
Should not have been speeding.
What grates my balls is people that are very quick to pass judgement as if they so innocent.
You never sped in your life?
We all as you say dooses because none of us can say, yes we have never ever sped.
Rather take it as a lesson to not do the same as this guy before saying no sympathy, remember he didn't drive drunk or go out intentionally to kill people. It was a stupid accident that shouldn't of happened because in a moment of stupidity and immaturity he did wrong. That's it.
I see people do allot worse and walk among us.

Totally agree with the rear damping...can be pretty dangerous especially on a bend..awd would have helped

mate, i absolutely respect your opinion on this and i see where you are coming from. now i come from a place where i've seen too many young people kill themselves (and other people) with fast cars or bikes. i ride a suzuki tl1000r vtwin in my spare time.. so i'm very familiar with the world of being a chop and speeding.

the full news article that i read on this, said that the driver was 26. so my opinion (and where my earlier comment comes from) is this.. a 26 year old driving a friggin M4 really is an accident waiting to happen. the problem is that its always a stupid mistake at the wrong time that ends up like this. sure, everyone speeds and will do something stupid at some time or another...but the difference with most people of 'age' is that they know a place and time.

it really makes me angry when i see young people waste their lives from a moment of hot headedness. not only this, two innocent people just walking on the street were killed too. so now one mistake becomes a life long tragedy between all these families that are involved.

i really do think drinking and driving, is not any different from being stupid and driving. the consequences are the same

edit: i know you knew this driver, and i feel crap for you and the loss of all the people involved. i do apologise for my earlier comments. i cant judge him as a person, or of who/what he was..that only the family and friends will know. my comments were purely based on what has happened. im not "holier than thou".. but i know of 6 young people personally who have been lost in moments exactly like this..and its always the same cause.

It's got nothing to do with age and everything to do with experience and skill.

Anything can happen on a public road where experience and skill will not help you. Maturity generally comes with age. There is a reason insurance costs are a lot more for younger drivers. Here are some statistics for you. To say it's got nothing to do with age is pretty ignorant.

Cool bud
I agree with all you saying bar the drunk driving part...i just feel that it is intentionally looking for trouble as opposed to a moment of stupidity and immaturity.
Yup, 26 too young for such a car... Mind you any car at the wrong speed ends this way usually. I just feel sympathy for all affected. Right now mostly for the victims kids, but also towards family of the diver.

I have done the same with regards to speeding... Once in a blue moon... Now seeing this opens my eyes a bit more and well let's all just keep our heads and be safe

Referring to the tables presented by DieselFan, the total cost of road accidents according to "gumment" was (listen properly {clearing throat}:roflol:)

SEVEN THOUSAND AND SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY AND SEVEN MILLION RAND!!!

So that's almost R 8 BILLION (wif a BEE).....

I have never quite understood how these figures are calculated but let's assume for the argument that this is correct. So the fatalities on SA roads cost the economy almost R 8 billion in 2013...

But, there's no budget for patrol cars???? Patrol cars that would create visible policing and deal with moving violations that cause accidents that result in fatalities......

Seriously.:RedNo:

That's from the arrive alive website. It's not the part of the table I was showing but for discussion sake. It doesn't specify what the cost is. It could be the police driving to the scene. The ambulance costs. The hospital costs for the people. The cost of damage to infrastructure. The damage to the cars. Etc etc.

Read about this. There was a comment posted on the facebook post from someone who knew the guy you perished in this accident (RIP).

Apparently he was rushing to the hospital, as his dad was not doing to well.

hmmm.. interesting....

though its also a reality that had the driver survived.. he'd be facing alot of criminal charges right now that most likely would've meant jail time for a while. either way...this is just nasty. the whole story still makes me shudder. its just crazy..
