BMW M3 LAW ENFORCEMENT

Back in the day SAPS were issued the tS's and they wrote most if not all of them off, this was due to lack of skill IMO.

That being said, in 2010 when I bought my 4door M3, I went on the BMW advanced driving course and there were several guys there from the Bloemfontein flying squad on the same training, I doubt they had M3's though...

Police cars don't need to be stupidly fast. I would think that would create more problems than it solves. Also, Mr Taxpayer would foam at the mouth if his money was used so that Japie and Pumzile can run around in an M3. Which would be destroyed by the hard lives such cars lead.

You say that but I've seen a number of high mileage (200k+) GTI's and E39s still in service with various VIP protection and highway patrol units

Modding a GTI or a 335i or any turbo car in general is cheap compared to getting extra power out of an already expensive M car.

I can say from personal experience that those GTI's that the police are driving around in are very far from stock! I got chased down on my old R6 by one of those things and only on a long straight was I able to gain on him but in the end I got caught as they use a very sneaky technique against bikes to catch them where they don't use their lights or sirens. They chase, slow down chase slow down so you keep slowing down to check if it is actually a cop chasing you or a flipping hijacker that's after your bike. I eventually got cornered somewhere in honeydew on a dark road with lots of loose gravel where I wasn't going to push the bike and end up wrapping myself around a tree.

I got out of the whole ordeal as I honestly didn't know it was a cop chasing me down as all I did wrong was go through an orange light and to do so I accelerated a bit and caught their attention. They chased me for a good half hour but never put there blue lights on and the vehicle was unmarked. If I saw blue lights I would have stopped one time shoe shine as running from cops is not something I will ever do as it will get you locked up. However Getting chased by some dodgy white GTI at 02:30am means I am getting out of there.

All I can say is that those things are VERY quick!
