Bmw M3 e36 Oil smoke HELP!

Hi all,

I have some probs with the good old M, S50B32

it's a 95 m3 saloon, Smoking ...a lot. it's an oil issue.. blue/greyish smoke

On acceleration/ deceleration only when the engine is warm. On idle only smoking when warm and driven for a while. idles rough ish'

Recently done head gasket valve seals etc on that end.. for 200 kms it was fine and then it started smoking again...

Compression is 95% all round 6 cylinders .

Cyclone separator is open and no vacuum leaks as far as I know.

Oil sump is not original with the separate oil vent plenum.
So I modded the dipstick to have a crankcase vent system like a 328i

Could this be my problem ? oil consumption is quite bad as it's getting oil from somewhere.... spark plugs look a bit wet from oil but not a lot.

Most likely your breather system that you have going on there. To much vacuum under acceleration maybe?

Hi,

I suggest that you check if it has the cyclone filter/separator under the manifold. I know the S50b30 had one, I can't remember if the 3.2 has one.
I have had were people have reconditioned the E36 m3 S50B30 for smoking only to have it still smoke after wards and find the separator is blocked.

You wont be the first that has done a engine for smoking and the separator is blocked.

well it isn't blocked as it lets through water at all 3 ports (the cyclone separator is just a hollow 3 way plastic cone shaped part )unless there is something in it but ya it doesn't seem blocked

also when I detach the air intake there is quite a lot of smoke coming out of the tappet ventilation and none from cranke case ventilation ... so it might be that my dipstick invention doesn't work as it should . or the piece of y pipe coming together from intake and cyclone filter to the dipstick crankcase vent needs to be taken of perhaps so that it will only be cyclone filter to dipstick and not returning to intake? just a shot what I can think of ..

Hi

the last one I had was the cyclone filter, just my 2 cents worth.
