But there is no driver listed for the M2, so one can't really compare, and they should pit the CLA 45 AMG against the M2, not the A 45 AMG.

I'm a huge fan of the M2, but have to say I'm very impressed with the mount of power they got out of that 4pot in the merc

Agreed. The CLA mass/ boot etc would be a more matched rival.
Any car can win a 400m drag race. Throw in bends, where braking, handing and throttle response is tested and its a different story. The M2 does a 7,58 'Ring time against the Mercs 8,10.
Also, reading the comments most people making about a 2 lt beating a 3lt etc etc etc, the same applies when people used to boast when a 6,2lt v8 was ip against a 4,0lt. (55% larger engine)
Or a 5,5lt v8 against a 3,2 straight 6.
Bmw didnt build a robot racer, they built a track machine for daily enjoyment

You see the EVO test of the M2 vs new Focus RS? only 0.1s between them.

Also not to forget considering the mercs superior power to weight, awd and 1,8bar boost, the M 2 did rather well to close so quickly and would have ate merc chops on the 1km.
