Okaaaay - bear in mind that stock E92 M3's push about 215-220 wkW at altitude... so whoever tuned the ones you saw must've done a bad job of it. It's not difficult to get an E92 M3 pushing 235-240 wkW with just an X-pipe and tune.

Now let's consider that the 1M doesn't have the same 17% loss at Gauteng altitude as the M3, on account of being turbocharged, which compensates for altitude.

At the coast, stock E92 M3's dyno around 260 wkW, while 1M's will still make somewhere around 225 wkW. Tuned M3's can make 280-285 wkW at the coast.

And that's not even taking into account the DCT option on an M3, which is way quicker at gearshifts than anyone kan eek out of a 1M's manual gearbox.

So no, it's not an equation of 1M > M3 unless it's under a set of very specific circumstances.
