Most high end cars sold now days are Automatic anyway .

I was told and read figures on paper that the new Automatics give better fuel consumption and faster times then manuals , But in real world driving, Is this true?

On the F30 spec sheet for our 320i it does show better figures then the manual version.

I think discontinuation of the manual is a small thing , at the rate this industry is changing I wouldn't be surprised if electrics take over and they discontinue diesel and petrol engines as a whole. I read in FT below that in Europe they plan on banning diesel cars in most major city's .

If the engine is banned in such large markets , its pointless for manufacturers to make them anymore.

It's old news that modern automatics and dual clutch gearboxes provide faster acceleration times and better fuel efficiency.

Unfortunately it's what the market wants, so manuals have been a dying breed for quite some time.

This is why the 911R was created.

More reason to hold on to my manual for dear life, because it's fun and more engaging..

However an automatic is ideal for daily driving..

As much as I enjoyed manual cars, I must say since getting the M135i with the sport aunt box, it really makes no sense to me to want a manual anymore
