BMW in sight

Hi Fellow members,

I am Christiaan living in Moreletapark in Pretoria. I recently sold my 2011 Audi S3 and I am in the market for a BMW.

My dad has left me with a classic : 1974 BMW 2002 in mint restored condition. I will create a drive thread later this week.

For now I am looking for a BMW E9x within milage limits of max 30k a year and preferably nothing older that 2009.

Then from you guys what can I expect to be common failures in these cars as well as the average servicing cost? I am not much of a mech myself although with the S3 I just learned how to use YouTube cause of the high labour costs.

Hope to join some evens this year when I have my wheels

Thanks All

Hi man

What exact E9X are you looking for? 335? M3? Or something more simple and daily-able?

I am looking mostly at the 2l engines not sure if I would go 320d or perhaps 325i

320d over 325i any day of the week. The 325i is fairly thisty and needs quite a bit of revs to actually perform since it's a N/A inline-six.

The 320d is great and if you could fit a 330d into your budget you should jump right at it. 330d's give great performance with good economy - especially on the open road.

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies this far,

I will create the 2002 thread as soon as I have taken foto's and have the complete story from my dad.

Then back to my journey joining the BMW family. I found a immaculate 330d and I have not yet found anything major on them go change my mind. I went to view today and found some issues that the dealer will address before delivery. There was one strange issue in particular that I hope the more technical guys on here could assist with.

When switching the car off there is a compressor noise from the engine bay for about 5 second more or less. I read a thread that mentions something about the Swirl Flaps being a problem yet that was on pre-2009 e90's this is a 2011 that just went out of bmw maintenance plan. Is this still an issue? What can I do that wont be too costly as the dealership would probably not pay for a new inlet manifold.

Last thing is that the aircon was not blowing, dealership told me they would fix that today or tomorrow.

Thanks guys

Chris

Hey buddy, i can tell you now as an EX audi owner, and you owning an S3, you will be dissapointed with both the choices mentioned in your post, if you looking for some poke, 335i or E46 M3.....if you looking for a daily and not expecting S3 speed and poke, but still pretty decent poke, 320D would be your ticket

Hi All,

Just an update, the dealership agreed to fix all issues I pointed out and the car is currently at their Mechanic. I have not signed anything yet so hopefully by Monday i can make a decision and take delivery.

Anything I should look out for on the 330d's?

Thanks for all the replies so far

Great choice of car!:clapper:
Problem-wise the 330d has nothing major to worry about. We had a X3 3.0d in the family from 17 000km all the way to 228 000km when it was sold and in that time we didn't replace a single major component - only wear and tear items.

Mileage on vehicle?

The full details of the car

2011 330d auto
105 000 km
White
Cream leather
Bluetooth
PDC
Not sure about other extras
Full service history with BMW
BMW confirmed no accidents that they know of

There are some scratches here and there but ill sort that out. The chrome window trim on the passenger side also has a minor dent. I am busy sourcing this part.

The driver is bringing the car to my technician Monday so if all goes well I should have the car by Wednesday latest

Thanks for all the replies this far.

It was my father's car and he replaced it with a 2014 F30 328i. Although the 328i is great he still misses the X3 almost daily. The motor is what made it though and that lead to me eventually getting a 330d of my own:praise:

Sounds solid, Although I love my 320d to bits, I sometimes wish I rather got the 330d. For you coming from a S3, I would steer clear of the 320d.

What is the asking price for this car?

Lastly, if you dont post pics of the 2002 ASAP, your account will be banned. :fencelook:
