BMW holiday check and a new drivers airbag

So I booked my E46 in for its holiday check next week , I dont need a service as the car states I have about 10 000kms to go so this time I decided to give it a miss .. Just had an oil service in Jan .

While booking it in , the guy tells me that they might take a little longer as they need to replace my drivers airbag . Apparently the takata airbag issue effected the drivers airbag , Some time ago BMW replaced my passenger airbag so it looks like the Drivers is next .

Even though my airbag still looks petty good without any scratches or damage , Im Pretty excited to have a new airbag fitted by BMW and that after 15 years !
Still shocked that they are doing these recalled on such old cars .
I wonder if they will also in time replace the door and A pillar airbags as well . Wonder who made those?

Anyone had theirs changed already?

There is no door or A pillar airbags, those marking show the interior curtain airbag which stretches from the back windows to the front.

You should also have a side airbag in your seat but you need not worry as those are ok..

The e46 definitely has airbags in the front doors.

Ah ok my mistake then. Based on the picture it looks like a Takata unit fitted.

I wonder what happens to the door panel when it deploys then...?

Yeah sent in my E46 330i to get new airbags. They replaced both the passenger and driver side. The driver side the airbag also replaced the bit that you press on, so looks new

Still need to send in the 318i, at least passenger side already done, but they didn't have stock of the steering wheel one at the time I went

The 330i has the sports steering wheel, which they had stock of. The 318i has the square like multifuction steering wheel, which they were out of stock. This was at SMG Tygervalley.
