A few weeks ago, fellow Fanatics member @lebofa contacted me while he was overseas. He mentioned heβd be back home in SA around the 8th of August and wanted to bring in his stunning G05 X5 ππ¨ for some brake work β rear discs, pads, sensor, and a brake fluid flush π§β and asked to book it for the 12th.
Yesterday he stopped by with all the parts in hand (rear discs, pads, sensor, and brake fluid). Funny enough, we live just three streets apart β convenient! π
We started by adding protective covers to the driverβs seat, steering wheel, and footwell π‘οΈ to keep everything spotless. The X5 went onto the lift, air suspension into Jack mode, and parking brake into service mode.
With the wheels off, we immediately spotted that the front pads were low π β not yet triggering the sensor, but they would in a few weeks. While the car was here, he decided to get the front pads and sensor as well, so we could do the full job in one go. The front discs were still in great shape.
Rear brakes were stripped down completely β calipers, brackets, clips, bolts, dust shields β all removed, degreased, and cleaned until they were Brake dust free and looked brand new. Calipers, axles, and hubs got the same treatment.
Once the front pads and sensor arrived, we pulled those apart too, showing him the built-up brake dust before giving the calipers, clips, and pins a thorough clean.
Everything was reassembled with care:
We then flushed and bled all four corners with OEM BMW DOT 4 Fluid using the pressure bleeder, refitted the wheels, took the air suspension and parking brake out of service modes, cleared stored codes, and reset all brake service reminders β .
By the time we wrapped up, it was 8 pm. I did a short test drive to confirm the brakes felt perfect and were starting to bed in.
This morning, He collected the X5, we ran through everything that was done and off he went, About an hour later I got this message:
"Thank you very much π You did a great job here, no squeal and the brakes are great"
Another happy BMW Fanatic! π
@lebofa Thanks for trusting us with your beautiful BMW X5 β Iβm glad I could assist. If you need anything, just shout β Iβm literally walking distance away! πΆββοΈ

- Rear brakes first, then fronts β all meticulously reinstalled π οΈ
