Can you please tell me what is wrong with my 328 97 model BMW.She only rev's up to 5500 and then limits at that rpm.Previously she go to 6000 rpm without any hassles. All i did was to replace the idler bearing and the tensioner bearing. Please help.i have little knowledge of Bm's as it is my first BMW.This car is serviced regularly as it requires. This is a E36 328 convertible 1997 model.

I have the same problem with my 730d, does not want to rev up to 5,000 either...

Hehe, just kidding.

My first thaught here would be fuel supply, either pump, or ditry injectors or something, its getting fuel but just not the right pressure.

However, since you say you fiddlled with the idler wheels and so forth, it means that you were in front of the motor where the cam and crank position sensors are. Perhaps you pulled out a wire or knocked a loose sensor. I daignostic will confirm..

Good luck.

I don't think so and know so.becoz i filled up last night with petrol and not diesel.
Anyone with some usefull info please.
I don't worry as i don't drive till the rev's are in the red.
I will check the fuel system and the crank sensor.
But thanks for all the usefull replies.
