Bmw f30 timing chain

So a quick question

I was at my mechanic today and saw a 320i bmw there.
While we were speaking he tells me the timing chain went on it.
So I say oh same problem as the older 2.0d. He says nope this is the petrol engine and he believes that it seems to be an issue as he has heard of others that the chain stretches.
Have any of you heard about this.

I am just curious.

It's not just on BMW, MERC and VW have timing chains that stretch depending on the models. The new "light weight chains" become noisy and if left long enough can break the guide rails. BMW N47 (DIESEL) and N13 N20 also. We just did 2 N20 this week.

Hi, not to spoil your day, but very possibly, usually starting 100 000km +.

Hi

Does the f30 n55 have the weak timing chain issue? Even if not, when should the timing chain be changed as a preventative maintenance? What does it cost to change?

Thanks

Hi John,

I have an F30 320i 2014 what sort of noise does the stretched chain make or should one bring it in for a diagnostic?:blueCry:

are they being replaced with an updated chain or will this become a routine maintenance item?

if so i think they should consider using a belt
