Evenings Guys ...I've got a quick question ...Im thinking of purchasing a V8 m3 but some guys have been telling me that the big end bearings on those cars give up is true ?.. if so ..how much would that actually set me back to have them fixed ?.. because I mean all performance cars come with their issues lol and that shouldn't stop you from getting the car you want right ??

Holding a bend is what they are build for, nothing like it for the same money, go for it, do the bearings you'll never look back...

If you have the means, go for it bud!!!
I guarantee you you'll be more than happy!

And yes, do the big end bearings as soon as you can. If you need assistance with cost etc, contact Tune Tech, they'll give you a good idea of what it'll be.

Best of luck!

Hi guys,

I'm a little concerned. I have the E90 M3 for 2 years now and haven't done the bearings...Should I or should I wait till it gives problems? What are the costs??

Are you the owner from new? If not, you probably wont know how the prev owner drove the car. Even if you did know, preventative maintenance is still better than what will come if you don't change them.
The only problem the bearings will give when they do go is a rod through your block, then its game over bud. So I suggest you get it done as soon as possible because these can honestly go at anytime.

Best of luck!

If you do it beforehand you can get away with 25K from tunetech. If you wait you will have to replace the engine costing 100K+ IF you are lucky. There are no symptoms beforehand use a piston through the block.

Hey guys,

do the mech's replace the bearing through the sump? Reason being is I don't like when they open to many things and don't put them all back together like they supposed to.

But whatever you do, take it to someone who has the required experience. I had a customer come past me this last week that had his V8 with two rolled bearings fixed by his local Indy. The guy clearly didn't know what he was doing and the result is that the car still has severe knocking and the job should be redone. The fact that he paid the dude R20k to fix a bearing knock should've been a dead giveaway, but that's what you get for doing this on the cheap.

Point is, replacing bearings is a small expense compared to fixing a motor when knocking inevitably starts.
