bmw e92 335I n54 economy

Drove my dads E92 335i to South Coast shelly beach, I am used to always getting there on one tank of fuel in all the cars I have driven there in....Not the 335 lol...I would say the consumption is pretty shit to be honest, at the same time though it is an auto and they do tend to drink compared to the manual.

My 330d when it was auto used to average in town 8.5 - 11/100 depending on how I drove, that reading is pretty inaccurate though as its quite easy to fool it, however I would get roughly 550 - 680km per full tank.

Once I converted it to a manual the reading it gave me was 4.5 - 6.5l/100 in town driving and just under 900km to a full tank and I think I got over 900km to a full tank once. So that just goes to show how much lighter a manual is over the auto.....we are talking old style automatics though, however the older E92 335i still used the older style auto boxes so the consumption is still pretty shit to say the least.

I don't believe I ever drove my car like an "asshole"....I gave a comparison of what my car used as an auto and what my car used after the manual conversion.

You have a magical car that's cool, I am really happy you get such awesome consumption. Its not really contributing to this thread?

I have driven a manual 335i and my dads auto. The auto is much heavier on fuel.

My E39 530d was auto and was not near as heavy as the above claimed figures of the E46 330d. In town with traffic every day and a few km's of highway driving gave me roughly 800km to 900km on a tank, and the reading never went above 9.3L/100km in the heaviest traffic. On the open road 1200km was doable if I wasn't doing 160kph and above in some places.

Back to the topic of the route, there are plenty filling stations. Fill up in your major towns rather than the smaller ones along the way. I have no experience with the 335i and with the claimed figures above of less than 500km per tank I would make sure to fill up in JHB, then again in Bloem (about 400km from JHB), then again in Colesburg (about 230km from Bloem), then again in Beaufort West (about 320km from Colesburg) and that should take you home. You could probably stretch it in parts, but if you don't know the route at all then rather fill up more often to keep stress levels down.

Gosh guys, I don't know why everything has to be an argument on this forum? I gave an example of what my car got as an auto and what it got as a manual. I really don't care if you guys got more, that's really cool that your cars are so awesome cause not even my dads E90 320d auto gets those figures so you guys have some seriously good old technology great machines that use very little fossil fuels to go very far. :coolShake: and that's great. I am so very happy for you. :blowheart:

The fact still remains that an auto uses more fuel than a manual. gosh go look on the spec sheets of your BMW's and it even says in black and white that the auto has higher fuel consumption. Who knows maybe you guys have done software that is giving you massive torque which will give you better consumption if you drive really nicely.

Not everything I say is an argument I write down my personal experiences, I don't need to be told that I drive like an asshole by someone who knows nothing about me. Now can we please stick to topic.

You're right. I had very good software on. Gave more power which was needed for the old lump of metal. Also had a 63mm downpipe, did EGR delete, removed the backbox and fitted a straight pipe instead... Did very well.

OK back on topic now... My 335 averaged 9.5 with a reset obc from Durban to Clarens on Sat morning with 2 people and a full boot.... On the return trip I arrived in Durban on 8.9lt, it was a 3 car convoy back and we were doing a fair bit of North of the speed limits. This is with the dct, however my older n54 coupe with an auto was marginally lighter on the durban/Jhb trip...

For you not to average lower than 9.5 on the trip to cpt would mean poor driving habits or mechanical gremlin under there... I also found the cruise control actually goes a long way to help the consumption of you set it at a decent speed and leave it alone.

Yup my dads 2008 E92 335i got irc 470km before we filled up again this was with cruise control on the entire time, 120kph and 100kph respectively.

we were not in reserve yet "But were very close" but didn't think we would make it to the next stop so filled up, my dad is paranoid.

When I drove Kishs ex 335i from Durban to Johannesburg I averaged 8.9L. Speed was between 120 and 150. When I reached home I had 233km left on the range, more than 1/4 tank left. Average speed on OBC was 119km/h.
