BMW E90 PROJECTOR RETROFIT

I remember opening the lights on my E39 525 face lift, the one light had the special glue that gets soft with heat and was very easy to open, but the other side...wow...I ended up using a soldering iron to cut it open which took hours! There is definately no way to can melt that glue the plastic does melt long before that glue, its basically rubber! try melting a car tyre it will just burn.

I recon the cleanest way to do this is with a dremel, neatly cut it open and then either plastic weld it back together at every couple centimeters to keep it together and then fill in the rest with a clear silicone, well done, I want to see some angel eyes in there though, but LED angel eyes.

OK, here it is:

there are some requests for these to be done to their "ugly" headlights:

E90 CCFL angel eyes = R550
projectors and shrouds = R750
Labour = R600
canbus H7 kit 35W 6000K = R600

Vishal, why don't you add the HID spots or LED as part of the package? In that way, all lighting will have similar colour temps, bar the high beam.

Just checking - I assume that this H7 kit would not throw any errors, or do have an additional error cancelling box/circuit?

Also, how long would this job take? I might make a trip down to Durbs in July (hopefully) and would like to get everything installed by you at once.

CANBUS kits have error cancellors built into them. therefore no errors seen by car ECU.
the job would take TWO days including drying of the glue and some float for me to take a breather in between the two headlights.

:praise: Amazing, any chance we could get you down in Cape Town?
Do you have pics with it on the car, perhaps in daylight to test brightness?

I want angel eyes and white/blue headlights, doesn't have to be super bright, I just hate that yellow color (brights can stay yellow). I have OEM halogen PreLCI E90 headlights.
What are my cheapest options? Can you just buy different globes? Would the H7 kit be much brighter?

Can anyone explain all these big words in basic terms
Projectors and shrouds, canbus H7 kit & what's the difference between HID vs xenons etc. Sorry for the dumb q, tried google but fell asleep reading technical explanations

hey NavZ,

HID and Xenon is the same thing. you can choose what "brightness" or colour temperature you want your light output to be. 5000K is pure white and 6000K has a tint of blue in it. anything higher than 6000K is illegal i heard. the HID kit is your best bet to having better and brighter lighting.

you get the normal ones and the canbus ones. for your BMW you would need the CANBUS ones. our BMW cars are very sensitive. they tell you when you have changed something in the car that it does not like. so to "fool" the computer box we add in an error cancellor. this is a CANBUS kit.

a projector is as the name suggests. it projects the light going through it. a car with xenon headlights and no projectors scatter the light in all direction and even into oncoming drivers' eyes. so to control where we want the light to be (on the road) we put in these projectors with a shutter between the lens (glass "ball") and the xenon bulb. when we need the brights we energise a solenoid that pulls the shutter down and lets "more" light through.

a projector without a shroud (or mask) looks shit. the shroud is the thing that fits around the projector to make it look good.

hope this helps buddy.

Thanks for the explanation, I now see the light
If I bought the angel eyes, projectors, shrouds & canbus kit from you, is everything pre-cut? What does the installation entail aside from cutting open the headlights?
Will you be getting blue LED angel eyes? Do you have a price estimate?
How can I get my fogs to match the 6000k light?

The headlight looks incomplete with the missing bulbs, could you use a dummy projector to make it seem like dual xenons or even just leave the bulbs in?
Can you do a full blackout ie. make everything black except for the bulbs & angel eyes? What would I need for this, paint, plastidip, vinyl? Do you need black shrouds?

Sorry for all the q's but I have the modbug
