BMW E90 heater/air con issue

Hi all

My first post here and really looking for some guidance if possible please!

I have a 320d 2006 and one day my heater and aircon decided they didn't want to blow anything out anymore.

I have tried all speeds/temps and still no joy, all the dials are working.

The one thing I have noticed is when driving at speed with heat on a small flow of heat filters through the vents.

Just looking on any solutions and costs to getting sorted if anyone can help!

Hi, I know what is wrong and had the same problem.

When you switch the fan on full blast or minimum there is no air coming out, the fan has stopped as it has gathered dust from the front. Don't ask!

Ok, here is how I got mine sorted without having to look at like R6K for a new one.

Important: Switch or take the key out of the keyhole. No power to the car.
Procedure:
Open the bonnet, remove the cabin filter housing, think it is about 7, 10mm bolts or something, remove cover and filter. On the passenger side, look through the hole and you will see the fan fins, remember to do this in a well lighted area as this is where you will work. Once you see the fan and its fins then put your hand in and move the fan, it will be sticky and hard to move (if not then you will need a new one), now get some Q20 and a straw and spray some Q20 into the straw and hold the other end with your finger. Put the straw onto the shaft of the fan (difficult to see and do something as your hand blocks your view) and let go of the other end, spin the fan while doing this to free it up. Once free spinning, stop and take all arm, hands and feet out from the car and go and switch the car on. Check if the fan spins (it should). Put everything back in reverse

Very neat and easy solution. I was told I have to replace the blower, however when I manually started moving it, it starts working again?

See it will do that if you manually spin the fan while it is set to on inside the car. You can spin it with your hand and it will spin again.

The problem is that BMW didn't think this one through when they did the inside fan and it more and more begin to look like an after thought, water leaks pass your cabin filter housing, the fan blade's center pen (don't know how to explain it beter, Afrikaans dude here :roflol gets rusted in the process due to the exposure and it builds up rust. The motor isn't strong enough and with little too much rust the blades stop spinning and you boil inside the car while every digital instrument works and have a WTF moment.

I was crying when this happened and after a phone call to bmw, they insane with their price on this fan and their stupid build. But I managed to get it going again, this will be a preventative measurement as it will keep on happening but luckily I managed to get a fix for it :rollsmile: (cant remember which forum I got it from but it took me a while to get this, thank you to the original poster)
