BMW E90 Head Unit

Hi guys,
Where can I get a radio head unit for the e90.

Some time back my little one pushed a coin into the CD player slot and this weekend while driving, I heard this pssst, sound and then there was smoke coming from the cd slot.

Quickly pulled over and switched everything off. After the smoke blew over, I started the car and everything was fine.

When I switched on the radio, everything works but no sound from the radio

Please help, was also looking at the idea of changing the complete head unit for the DVD, sat nav, I pod and Bluetooth interface package

This morning everything worked fine but the radio stations were not clear. There was still the smell of something burnt lingering in the air.

Drove to work using the I-Pod and all was fine, until I switched the fan on, then same thing smoke again. Quickly switched the fan and radio off. Lucky I was about 2 minutes from the office.

Need help here guys, Is there is scrap yard where i can get the BMW Professional head unit

If I was you , id have the HU taken out and remove the coin. This is causing a short, nothing seems blown as you have sound and power, there is a thread here with the "how to remove the e90 HU" , its simple enough. all you need is a jackhammer and a crowbar. LOL .
it will be cheper than buying the satenav with bluetooth and stuff. if you in C.T. RAD is selling one for 8.5K fitted :blab:

good luck, but dont put the radio on with teh coin in it, might realyy blow something and might cause a burn.....and then some.

Hey bro! Same thing happened to a relative of mines. He took it in and they pulled out the hu,removed the coin and everything and was fine. My concern is the smoke you talking about, thats worrying. But either way check it out first before replacing the entire unit because it aint gona be cheap!!

Reminds me of my grans polo which has a R100 note and about R15 small change in it after VW wanted R9000 to change a Beta sound system in a 2004 Polo.

Best bet will be to remove the head unit and get the coin out, from there you can then see if it has cured the problem. Try this site of assistance on removing the head unit DIY Head unit removal

But i wouldn't go for the aftermarket radio install. This is because not only does it not work correctly but the trim plate that allows for a double din makes the car's interior look tacky. I've heard that it actually causes the BMW amps to blow after a while. This is due to the original BMW unit providing a signal to the factory amp and the amp providing the power to speakers. So by installing a aftermarket unit it gives out power to the amp hence causing them to blow. It will work well if you only have a aftermarket amp fitted.

Hey there,
Yup that was me, was contemplating hitting the skid pan but was too tired after a sweltering day.
It was there when I first noticed the smoke

You should have flagged me down. Maybe next time
