If also needed to top up my M, was short a pint, went with dealer at R250/l, but maybe Mobil 1 is the way to go....anyone know where I can get that in Cape Town.

Liqui Moly Racetech 10W60 as Nikhil has stated above, in my opinion the best oil for the S54!:coolShake:

LM GT1 is no longer ///M approved.

see what it throws up when you select a M car.

10W-60 you won't get in ZA.

There's nothing wrong with Castrol guys. It was the recommended oil for the S54 for years. Unfortunately these cars are just prone to bearing knocks. For engine longevity, the oil should be changed every 5000-8000km, regardless if you're using Shell, Liqui Moly or Castrol.

Agreed. You will never get sludge issues if you change every 10 000km, but it also will not entirely prevent rod bearing failure - though it might slow bearing wear down. If you use Castrol, just make sure it is the correct Castrol for the S54.

If what you say is true then why did BMW move to Shell if Castrol was the best oil for the S54?

Shell gave them a better deal?
But in all fairness, the problem BMW has, is changing oil only every 25,000 to 30,000kms! Stupid! I'm a firm believer in changing within 10,000kms. We spend crap loads of cash on our cars and then try save R1,000 on oil or services. :thumbdo:

**Thread revival**

I went to BMW the other day for a 1l to top up. R346.

I thought the guy was joking. He was not.

What do you guys think of Motul?
8100 X power and 300V.

I've topped up with 8100 X power. I've read the bottle and it is recommended for M cars.

However someone suggested the 300V. Is it worth the extra money and I will probably have to change oil every 5k km if use this oil?

What do you guys think? Is LM GT1 still the gold standard and should I just stick to that?

I still prefer Liqui Moly and advise it when i do services for other people..

Here's one of the reasons why:

The video is not testing 10w60 but the same principle applies..
