BMW E46 330i Crank No Start 🥺

Good morning Guys

I honestly don’t know anymore... My 2001 E46 doesn’t want to start, all it does is just crank and then that’s it, I checked it myself and literally checked and swapped out what I thought could be the problem.

Even had some mechs who just wasted my time and money and not finding out what the issue is.
1.I’ve changed fuses
2. Checked fuel pump
3. Fuel relay
4. Changed spark plugs

so I really don’t know what the issue is anymore..

anyone got an idea what else could be the problem?

Battery also fine? Have you tried to kick start the car?

There 2 sensors that could be faulty.

Crank sensor and the other uh cant remember the name. With these usually intermittent failure first, where by car will stall when you stop at a traffic light, but eventually they will completely fail and engine won't start at all, only do what you describe here.

I second the possibility of a faulty crank sensor. Also, don't rule out the starter motor. Sometimes they fail completely not cranking the engine at all, other times they might just be too weak to properly turn the engine.

Did any of those mechanics attempt to scan the car for codes?

I’ll try look for the other sensor, because I changed the crank sensor the one in front of the engine by the left side.

Also, review this video:

I’ll do that.

The starter definitely cranks and we ruled that out but you never know, yes they did scan it twice & it picked up low fuel pressure but then we sorted that out and still nothing.

Did you change the fuel pump? Inside the fuel pump is a pressure regulator to maintain fuel pressure in the system. Fuel pressure should be around 3.5 bar. The pump might be working, but the regulator might be shot and not holding pressure. Did the mechanics actually test the fuel pressure? There is a valve on the fuel rail (in the engine bay) where the pressure can be tested.

Just because the starter is turning, doesn't mean it is functioning 100%.

The crank position sensor is located at the back of the engine, close to the starter. So it sounds like you changed something else.

Good afternoon
The timing on the car was off and the cam shaft sensor I believe was not sitting properly.

The car starts now but has air coming inside the engine.
