I read that the reason BMW did not use xenon headlamps bulbs on the E46 was because rapidly switching on and off "Flashing" the high beams , can cause damage to the xenon bulb and ballast as the bulb needs a few minutes to heat up to the correct temp ,Flashing may causes a shorter life of the bulb and in some cases the bulb explodes .

How did you do the bi-xenon conversion on your dipped beams? Did you have to fit one of those things with a shutter in it?

hi I fitted most of the internals from another headlight but I didn't remove the inner lenses on the head light it's a damn huge difference than those night breaker and the normal Chinese HID kits I just need to get the car to work after I'm done with some other stuff and focus the headlights properly

No sure how that applies. The actual bump is permanently on it doesn't flash... You'd run both as low beams with the shutter open as the high beams... that's what I wouldn't do anyway.

On my E46 with factory xenons , the driving lights are Xenon and the high beams are Halogen . When the high beams are activated , a shutter moves on the low beams opening up? the beam to a wider area .

When the lights are off and I "Flash" my high beams , my car does not "Flash" the xenon low beams , it will only flash the halogen high beam alone because if it did flash the xenon low beam , as per BMW reasoning , this would damage the bulb. When the lights are on and I flash the high beam , Im not sure if the low beam shutter opens up and flashes with the high beam halogen .

From my understanding of his post , he wants to put in a Xenon bulb or Bi xenon as his High beam , and he has a Bixenon unit as his low beam . Which would mean he wont be able to flash his lights when his lights are off? Because that would mean the Xenon high beam would have to flash and this would damage it?

Correct me of im wrong , trying to understand :)

I'm with you. Sorry misunderstood him.

To be honest though I don't think the few times you may flash your lights when you're headlights are off will cause detrimental damage

I doubt it would damage the globe because I mean how often does one use brights I wanna fit it because I don't like the yellow look and also when I go out to visit fam I'd leave probably Friday after 6pm because of work so on some roads it be nice to have the bright lights .... with the xenon's on now my high beam is hardly visable

I also have aftermarket xenon in my hilux and you will probably find the same results as I...... brilliant lights but because you don't have a projector you going to blind oncoming traffic.
the projector gives you a cut off line that keeps you're dims nice and low... without it xenon throws a very wide and high light

I've found with HID's in your low beams, you hardly ever need to use your brights in most urban traffic environments.

If you're doing lots of long distance rural driving, having better brights becomes a necessity.

as it is if I switch brights on you don't notice any brightness lol but I got another hid kit from a fortuner so why not fit it
