BMW E36 Heat and fuel gauge failure.

hi everyone.

So last night while heading home my fuel and heat gauge on the dash completely stopped working, both needles resumed to where they normally are when turning the car off. All lights, speedometer and rev counter were working 100% though.

When arriving home, I switched the car completely off and tried to restart. the car however was completely dead, no cranking what so ever.

I then checked the number of fuses linked to the dash, and found fuse no. 46 had blown. Changed the fuse, and car started and gauges were back to normal.

Just wanted to state what had happened, incase any other fanatic might experience the same.

question is though, how does a fuse for the gauges result in the car not starting?

What was the function of fuse 46?
What does the legend on the fuse box read for fuse 46?
