Does such a car exist?. I'm not sure whether my eyes were playing tricks on me but this afternoon I saw a blue E34 with what seemed like 'i.s' lettering at the back. Unfortunately I couldn't take a picture.

If it does have a badge on it, which is quite possible, then the guy is an idiot.

Like the F02 760i I saw this morning, with //M badges on every panel, and a cheap V12 badge stuck on the C pilliars in the middle in eye line of the window...

It takes all sorts...

Yes there is such a thing. I'm not sure about New Zealand and South Africa, but it was definitely available for the Australian market. There is even a brochure for it. It's not really a separate model, it is just a 535i with M Technic package, forged metric wheels, leather sport seats, LSD, alarm, rear headrests and self-dimming mirrors. Rear spoiler was a dealer installed accessory.

Yes E34 535i - not certain about is though. I did some research and found this.
535i
M30 engine, as used in the 535i
During its production from 1987-1992, the 6-cylinder 535i was the top model in the regular E34 line-up. A total of 126,895 535i cars were produced, including 6,469 were sold in North America. The 535i was replaced by the V8 engined 530i and 540i models.

Despite the 535i designation and '3.5' casting on the intake manifold, the M30 6-cylinder engine found in the E34 535i was actually 3.4 litres (207 cu in).
535i Sport & 525i Sport (UK)
The E34 535i Sport was introduced to the UK market as an 1989 model. In 1993, the 535i Sport (powered by the M30 engine) was replaced by the 525i Sport (powered by the newer M50 engine). These models included features such as the M-tech body kit, a rear spoiler, M-tech steering wheel, LSD, sports suspension and upgraded stereo.

Saw the car again today, it's blue in colour and is driven by an old white man. Looks in very good condition. Am starting to think that it might be a 525ix.

Yea, it's just that I have never seen the car up close that is why I assumed that it might have been a 535is. Thought the ix models were only available overseas.
