bmw e30

Unfortunately the seller took advantage of the OP.

As A1exander said, this is a normal 2dr chrome bumper car.

Shadowline cars had black window trim, colour coded bumpers, and usually came with sport seats.........The ones with adjustable lumbar support, like this:

And while I am aware that shadowline trim was available in the ROW on other models as well, we here in SA only had the shadowline option on the 325i.

Hey guys. Im still new to this site. I've recently bought me a e30 320 shadowline it is in need of some TLC. I've started buying parts to restore it and also put some custom parts on it... i even made my own wooden gear knob to fit my hand perfectly. Im also busy doing research on a 2jz conversion. And if there are anyone that can give some pointers or point out the do's and the dont's

Good luck with the 2J conversion Bud. My brother has it in a Lexus, 404wkw and 709nm. We have also seen E46's and E36s run these motors with great results :coolShake:

Off hand, the guys to contact would be Hannes Minnaar, or Schalk Hartzenberg of Schalk Conversions, they both run these motors. Also Mannys Trix, he built Paulo Dos Santos's Lexus 2J IIRC.

Welcome OP! Nice to see another E30 on the forum ! Good luck with your build!

I must admit , this threadt confused the hell out of me , first i saw an E30 chrome bumper , then shadowline information , then an argument , then something about a conversion .
Like one of those confusing movies :)

Peter is correct though , all the shadowlines I have ever seen were 325i , with black window trim and sport seats , with M Tech 2 steering wheels.

Really nice car though! Keep us updated!

Hi Shane

Lekker ride there!!

Best of luck and wish you many hours of enjoyment (and not many hours of frustration...)

Having joint the forum 6 months ago I can unequivocally state most forum members (i.e. the majority) very helpful and supportive. Some a bit more fanatical than others though... :drama:

pc

Pardon my ignorance :withStu:- what exactly is a 2jz conversion- toyota turbo engine of sorts??

Welcome to the forum , hope you have an awesome time here.

some points.

1. Shadowline is blacktrim around the windows and yes they were availible on chrome bumper models as well.
2. All shadowlines came with electric windows, in fact I idont know of many 2 doors which came with manual windows.
3. There is nothing wrong with a 320i , its a nice little car.
4. Your car has loads of aftermarket stuff on it, boot spoiler, side skirts , front bumper are all non original and would not have been fitted by BMW.
5. Stance needs to be sorted, a good looking E30 sits nice and low , unless you on stock wheels.

What advice are you after with regards the car, there are loads of people who can furnish details on what you should and should not do , in the end its about what you want or dont want too do to it.

I was hunting for some spares when the owner of the scrapyard asked me what im looking for so j told him the guy i bought it from said its a shadowline. He told me that he used to work at bmw Bavaria and to tell if it is a shadowline you must look for all sorts of weight reduced parts... mine has the grey material seats in, window winders, no sunroof, and the most important thing is that it has aluminium doors and bonnet. Im not sure about the wing but one thing im sure of is that you cant buy aluminium bmw doors at autostyle.....

Welcome to the forum Shane

Given the description, seems like the previous owner tried to sell you a cross between a 325is and a lightweight e36 M3...

Not to worry though, you're here to share and to learn - so feel free to ask questions and learn as much as you can about your car - more so good luck

P.S. Don't do a 2J, fit a BMW engine instead

Welcome.. e30 are always popular in here.. not a shadowline but still a neat 2door.

Although first thing i would toss is the 2l motor, not BMW's finest hour. Had a 320 and the engines are pathetically lethargic and lazy for a straight 6 2l.

I stroked and bored mine to a 325 many years back, or simpler still find a nice M88 motor or 325 motor to slot right in there..Im sure Peter can give your the insights to a M88 into a E30 Body..

Remember with power upgrades, comes stopping power upgrades too....

Even though it is a normal 2 door 320 im still loveing it it doesn't really matter as long as its a door:rollsmile:....

Thanks to all the info and i must say im wiser now

Hi Shane.

Welcome to the club buddy. You are correct Peter, the car in question is in deed a chrome bumper - I know the car, I'm from the same town:=):. The car has the m20b20 6 cylinder motor and sounds pretty good.

Good luck with your new car and enjoy the journey. These cars are fabulous. Just make sure you always keep it locked in and safe - they are very popular and high on the most wanted list... I had to replace 6 lock sets on mine already.

Cheers, and keep us posted!

Thanks a lot.... you say your from the same town.... whats you number would like to meet you

E36 Multivalve sixer for this baby please :blowheart:

About foul the language used, I wanted to swear on this forum more than once because of other members' arrogance and sarcasm but for the sake of common decency, self-respect and respect for others I did not and never will because listening to, or reading foul language is like eating a peanut butter and jam sandwich which fell in the sand.

BTW, sorry bud, but you got hoodwinked on the "Shadowline" thing, AFAIK know the Shadowline type E30's only came out after 1987.

Some Shadowlines:
