Hello Fanatics,

Chaps I have been on the lookout for an old BMW to do a restore on as I am nearing the end of the M3 restore. I have been offered a running BMW E3, for R5k. Yes It needs heaps of work I am sure, I have requested pics, so please don't shout at me as I don't have any yet and haven't even seen the car.

What do you guys know about the E3? I must admit I don't know too much, outside of what I can find on Google and Google images?

Papers are in order, however is this something worthwhile to even start looking at seriously?

Thanks for the input guys!

Go for it.

Ha ha, Jandre, I have seen the task you have taken on and was also looking at it! Just dont have the expertise to tackle such a project! I am really thinking hard about it, I mean the worst that can be lost is R5k but if all goes "pear shaped" I still have the vehicle that can be sold for spares etc!

I think I am in!

Jandre,:ty: and good luck with yours!

We have very few classic BMW's around.

Listen, I am not really a boffin on restoring , and will have to rely on the help of a few guys, and pay others to do some work.

But getting ones hands dirty is good fun and in a way, quite calming.

With the small network of classic car enthusiasts around, and the power/ resources of the world wide web, restoration of classic have become much easier, and the parts are within reach.

Do it for the car man. You know you want to.

When I was a kid, my uncle had a blue E3 2500  that car was a beast, it was a twin carb 6 pot  I remember the fuel cap is located behind the rear number plate :) quite a neat function for a 70's car....

I say go for it :thumb:

Ok so the seller has contacted me and sent me a pic of the car, from what I can see all is there, headlights chrome trim windscreens and glass in tact BUT.....

Vehicle still on a "pink slip" and black and white TPL(?) plates, does this mean a licensing nightmare? Bodywork not too good, although doesn't look like muh rust!

I will post he pic tomorrow, can't post from my iPad?

Let me have your thoughts pls

:thinking::thinking:

Cois, pls help me out with this licensing query? I have no idea what a pink slip is? I know a log book, actual cardboard book? Not a pink slip?

Go for it, man. The E3 was the forerunner to the 7 Series and was available in SA from 1968 to 1977. The motor in the 2500 is identical to the one in the early E12 525, therefore the trusty 2,5 litre M30B30 straight six with twin Zenith carbs. The bodies are tough, and mechanical spares are relatively easily available and don't cost an arm and a leg. Only trim items are fairly hard to come by, and can be costly. They have become rare sights these days.:=):

Sith, so the licensing thing is not too serious? All chrome trim items are in place and I suppose for R5k are you really loosing?
