Yes maybe she should have kept left, but the X5 must of been coming up at a crazy speed for her to get a fright/surprise. There was no cars on both lane on the way back.
I'm just pissed off at the guy for taunting and give us dirty look like he owns the road. 1st and foremost for us the driver is the safety. And for the guy to drive recklessly, he could have easily rear ended us (no pun intended haha)...
Just because the guy is coming at crazy speed, law abiding drivers needs to watch out for jackass's like that? Why couldn't he go on the left lane then? He had no emergency, he had no blue light, why must he tailed my GF with no traffic?
When people do that, I just slow the F down and they can over take me on the left, I could care less who they are and what car they drive. I'm not gonna let a idiot cost me a accident or get a ticket!
No i was not commenting on your girlfriend or what happened this time at all (I already said the guy in the X5 was an ass) I was talking about this... If you think this is the way to do things then you just as much of an asshole as the guy who was travelling faster and ends up behind you... the reason people should not overtake on the left is because people dont look properly when moving into the left hand lane... this is because there should not be fast moving traffic in this lane...
so you can be self-righteous and stay in the fast lane then wander why all these people get pissed off with you... or you could just be courteous and move over...
this way you are nice to the 90% of decent people who just happen to be driving faster than you and you do not risk having some psycho try run you of the road...

Has it never happen to anyone when you are being tailgate and you try to move to the left the person behind you try to do the same? This is how my bro got into an accident with an M3 and had his car hit on the rear, spun, flipped over and fell into a ditch by sunninghill.
Yes is easy for us to move to the left, but is just as easy for the X5 to over take us from the left, as he would have seen us cruising along the speed limit miles away no?

Granted, in the perfect world you are supposed to stay left and pass right. I think it is even considered illegal to under take (pass in the left lane). Problem is, how many road users really adhere to this? Then speed limit and flow of traffic needs to be considered - not always practical to stay in the left lane.
We all have our good days and our bad days on the road, it's a fact of life in this day and age. And the problem is, most people easily feel very brave and almost disconnected from reality when sitting behind the wheel - so stupid and impulsive things do happen. This is where a little thing called self-control needs to come in - unfortunately some people lack this quality.
Now I think it's a not a case of pointing fingers at who was wrong leading up to this, but the fact that he acted maliciously and threateningly is the issue here! He was obviously agro, now what would have happened if you showed any aggression in return? Gets out of control very quickly! And at the end of the day, it's just not worth getting all rattled up for some stupid aggressive @rse on the road!!

I'm sad to hear your gf had to endure this type of aggression from another motorist. For a woman it is even more nerve-wracking than for a man to have someone obviously aggressive in demeanor intimidating them. I'd hate to have someone do that to my girlfriend. You obviously care for her dearly and it got you upset. His reaction was over the top and unneccesary and he should be kicked in the dangly bits with safety boots for his reaction.
However, a lot of the forum users comments are right, if she had been in the left lane as the first rule you learn when you get your learners licence says "Hou links, regs verby", there would be no distasteful incident.
It is one of the most frustrating things for me to have to
1) Sit behind someone in the fast lane when that person is obviously overtaking nothing
2) Overtake on the left, having myself then run the risk of running into a slower vehicle on the left because visibility is poorer because of where the steering wheel is located, or maybe overtaking at the same time as the person in front who finally decides to move.
3) I know I might be doing 130 (or more?), but I might genuinely be in a hurry because of an emergency and you are pootling along in no hurry to be anywhere
Like I said, I hope she doesn't become scared of taking on traffic because of this, and give her a hug...

but have hogged the fast lane aswell,aswell as tail gated.
we all do it now and then,fact the guy is an idiot,he cut her off,he wasnt in too much of a hurry as he kept you standing at the robot
also it was sunday,quite and you can most probably see over a corsa from the seating position of a x5(no disrespect to the size of the corsa)

this is exactly why people should not overtake on the left and should not be forced too... this is also why i always move over early so they know where im going and i watch then as i do...
fact is though if you often have people coming up behind you and riding your ass you probably not paying enough attention to what happening behind you...
the thing is there will always be people that drive faster on the road... is it your problem if metro catch him down the road... there is no point in holding them up because it is more dangerous then just letting them pass and them getting caught by metro down the road...

Ok I'm done trying explaining myself, what most of you guys are saying is yes this situation could have been avoided by simply driving on the left hand lane. Which I agree 100%.

@moranor you keep saying the faster car should not overtake from the left if it doesn't have to, but does that make it ok for the guy to travel in high speed and tail some1 bumper to bumper? He could have easily overtake us on the left as there is no traffic at all, but because is dangerous for him to do so he should just tailgate? The X5 put himself and everybody on the road in danger by driving in a speed like that! But we need to give common courtesy to drivers like that...:blab:
I feel like because my gf did not pay attention to her rear view mirror in a few second, you guy condone the action what the X5 did. (I might be wrong...) Is not right for anybody, elderly, male/female, learners etc etc to be provoked like that. Yes there are drivers like that all over the World, so cry you a river haha...

I have to agree with this comment. Courtesy and situational awareness goes a long way to making our roads safer and more pleasant to use. As for the reference to a "fast lane". I don't think it actually exists. I think it is known as a cruising lane, (left lane) and an overtaking lane 9 right lane) and if everyone used them in the designated manner, then maybe there would be less road rage. Having said the above, i also don't think that the X5 driver's behaviour was acceptable. ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!

I have decided that the next guy who gets pissed off with me and trys to push me off the road is going to find that I dont actually move out of his way and he is going to cause an accident. We will see how brave he is then when we both have to pull over and exchange details and I tell his insurance company that he intentionally ran into me.
I am sick and tired of people thinking they have the right to do that.

If a guy comes up behind me and there is space to move...........I will, but if I dont do it quick enough and land up offending your delicate nature dont you f*cking dare try and hit brakes in front of me or try and push me off the road.

Tailgating is illegal, and so is hogging the right hand lane when you are a slower moving vehicle, and so is over-taking on the left hand side. So tell me, which is the lesser of all these evils? Is one less than the other?
Why not just do the right thing, and KEEP LEFT PASS RIGHT and that way all the evils mentioned above can be avoided a lot of the time, and especially in the case of the original post! (notice I said a lot of the time, not all the time)
I dont think anyone in these posts has condoned the actions of the X5 driver. In fact I think everyone has blasted him for his reaction. So I am not sure why you are getting all :argh: - worked up :biglol:
