Random public holiday thought about climate control on the E90, more specifically, the "Auto" function.
These cars have a myriad of sensors that work alongside your defined parameters to help it decide what it needs to do to achieve the desired results, however, are the components (heater, aircon, etc) variable? i.e. are they constantly running at max and then the system decides whether hot or cold air should be pumped into the cabin to get the desired temp?
A scenario might help:
Outside Temp: 12
Desired Temp: 22
Temp Balance: Mid (halfway between hot and cold)
Auto Function: On
In the above scenario, the aircon light is lit but obviously not needed to get the temp up - is the compressor therefore generating unnecessary load or is it variable in that it's producing the minimum load, making the system more efficient?
