there has been a lot of talk of ATE pads and discs recently and as far as oem goes then wont get any better... for aftermarket stuff i am sure someone else will pip in and assist..

i paid R395 per ATE front brake disc and R495 for the complete front set of pads. is the price quoted by bmw of R1950 including fitting? if it is then thats a great price.. if not then buy your stuff privately and DIY or get your local mechie to sort you out..

It was 1950 jus for the pads no labour!

Thanks man I have also heard about the ATE pads! I'm phoning around now trying to find some:fencelook:

DIY all the way paying crazy prices for people to do simple stuff! Not worth it

I wonder if there are the exact same pads. Remember OEM does not always equal OE.

Also heard that BMW alternates between 3 different types of pads not to sure how tru that is? One name that was mentioned was textar? Never heard of such a pad

+1

Original Equipment Manufacturer vs Original Equipment

eg, BBS LM's are made by an OEM, but are not OE

That is true however in terms of aftermarket pads, from everyone's reviews its seems to be the next best thing to Oem! maybe Ate does make a specific pad for BMW only?

I got a quote from powerbrake for their gt pads R946 for the front. Might be an option if you drive hard. If not then just go for ate.

PB is just too expensive in my opinion. Had a set of PB discs and pads on the 325i. Not any better than OE, but slightly more expensive.

Get a set of Jurid or Bendix pads. Trust me, you will not regret it. And just get a set of ATE discs.

BMW use ATE disks and pads for the E46, I reckon all that is different from the OEM and OE parts is the presence of the BMW logo or not. Fitted new ATE disk and pads to my Wife's car earlier this year - they are fantastic and never squeal. Paid R 2700 for front and rear disks, pads, and sensors - fitted myself and used copper grease as needed. Agents quoted me R3200 just to do the rear brakes!!!

Got the parts from Midas.

Important thing to do is the proper bedding in process!
