Me too. Didn't know too much about them & merely assumed that the Smart Roadster & Roadster Coupe were RWD & the shopping trolleys FWD but I now see that all are RWD. So perhaps from a packaging point of view FWD is not a must on an econobox? Or perhaps it is a must on one with rear seats, think Smart For Four, that one's Mitsubishi based and FWD.

Countryman is available in Cooper S form with a JCW Works kit in the pipeline too..
They do it currently & they do it well...with the Mini. If that car's dynamics rub off on the new small BMW it should be a hoot to drive. Perhaps platform sharing with the Mini in order to contain costs? It's a pity about Minis being priced right out of contention, in S.A. at least.Major said:Hey, if it's in the small cars, I can understand. Imagine a RWD Smart car or something, there's just no point. But yeah, FWD BMW's? Eish.

Scary but true. I even had a dyno operator once ask me why I reversed onto the dyno since he thought my car was FWD! Not that my car could be mistaken for a FWD car when power sliding out of a corner or launching it in boost from a standing start though.
