So well this past weekend I got an awesome Birthday present.... booked the BMW advance driving course...

Course - R+- R2300
Defensive driving
Anti-Hijack
Collision avoidance
Skidpan

It was a whole day event from half 7 to 4 in the afternoon... It started off by arriving at Velmore The awesome hotel that is home to the bmw advanced driving service. What a beautiful place, felt as if I entered a Villa in Europe...

As I turned to my Right I was star struck by the bmw's waiting for us.. A Grey M3 and 4 grey 330i's for the the high performance driving package... 2 white E90 330i's for the defensive driving and 6 :praise: 330i's for the skidpan.... anyway I was dragged away by that... to start our training...

A 1 hour Presentation on defensive driving, braking, driver aids etc.. then we took the white 330i's for a spin.. what beautiful cars and such a smooth drive... we did the defensive driving for an hour and its amazing that I used to drive like shit!!! not be fully alert when driving...

Anyway back to Velmore for a buffet Lunch... And damn!!! what an awesome lunch, food was mouth watering...

Then we did Bmw inspection... basic checks and electronic inspection.

But now the fun begins off to Zwartkops raceway for my first skidpan experience...

First test
Testing and g\learning how to use ABS effectively...
4 runs at 80km/h hitting the brakes hard to avoid the cones
Must say I learnt to control the car while using ABS and the shudder that comes with the braking.

Second test
Handling oversteer
learnt how to counter steer...

Third test
Handling understeer..
Learnt to handle a car without using logic (scary) thats the main thing I learnt that when our logic kicks in we do what we think is right to do nut to handle and gain control of a car we need to go against our logic

4 test cornering
Well we learnt how to take a corner and handle the car
6 laps on the skidpan and rather ended up learning how to power slide:thumbs:

All in all a superb day and well worth it...

So I decided to fill my car up ( ENGEN dynamic diesel 500ppm) and adapt my defensive driving skills... and the result was I achieved a better fuel consumption ever in this year that I have owned the car...

The day I filled up on monday went from benoni to JHB and back

The next day same trip and my range increased

Same driving style and time - no traffic

Very nice indeed

Well done. This course is a must and I would also recommend it to anyone as well as the track driving course. One is never too old to learn new driving techniques and skills.

hey guys
i also did the same one a couple weeks ago; your right about the food.

if you expecting drifting techniques; NO you will not get that here. Lekker fun messing around with a car thats not yours.

i just think that dsc and abs assist so much you dont even need this course. just point and react dont close your eyes and go straight into an object.

its worth it but if you looking for more; i say try to go for the m3 course; apparently you go on the track and do some nifty stuff with an M. its quite expensive tho
