Bmw 7 Series. Luxury and Comfort + Speed for this amount of money.?

That is a lot of car for the money. Just keep R20k a year in the bank for any issues.

Would be even more tempting on a 730d ....

MSM you mean save atleast every month a extra R1800 + installment R1800 = R3600.

Wonder how these gals feul consumption is between the 730d and 745i.

1 or 2 fill up's on a 1000km down to West coast from Northern Cape.

Correct. However, I don't think you can get more luxury/performance/comfort at that combined price point with any other car. That's still Toyota Yaris money for a 7 ...

5s and 7s depreciate faster than most alfas
Also, maintaining them out of motorplan requires deep pockets (similar trend with E and S class mercedes, actually most LuxoBarges)

Well the usual market for big luxury cars are executive types... and driving anything but the latest model doesn't sit well with an executive type... resale just kills them more because someone who is buying a car in the 100000 bracket cannot afford the astronomical running costs.... So generally you will have really good long term owners or dogs that go through owners quicker than Charlie Sheen goes through a gram.

I would love a e38 750iL though.

Agree, but at these prices, they are at the bottom of their depreciation cycle. A brand new 3 series depreciates the same value as this 7 series in 12-18 months ...

Yes, maintenance is the catch - hence the suggestion to keep R20k aside each year. While they are expensive to maintain, by no means are these lemons ito reliability. Just stick to good independent BMW workshops and avoid the stealerships if/when things go wrong.

20k minimum, 40k to be safe

Having of owned one, I can tell you it is BMW's flagship car for a reason.

Fuel on the 745 expect about 12 to 15l/100
Fuel on the 730d expect about 8 to 10.

Try and go for a 2004+ model

The early 2002/3/ had a lot of electronic gremlins in them.

But I can tell you this, you find a clean one, your not going to get better value for money, and give me the keys to a 7, watch how I out-handle any E90 with an absolute smile.

Homework assignment for you guys, what is the kerb weight on a 745 versus an E90....

What is kerb weight? Is it the unladen weight?

And that would be 1940kg on a 730d to 1610kg on an e90 330d.

So my point is this,

its only 17% heavier then the associated 3 series.

Also it has a much better suspension design, and the motors are usually uprated.

So go on... all the thing a ship....
