BMW 645ci Vert Vs 650i Vert

All the N62 engines have common problems:

* Valve stem seals
* Coolant transfer pipe
* Oil leaks on gaskets, o-rings
* Oil leaks through eccentric shaft sensors
* Alternator bracket

As scary as it sounds, the cost to fix is not all that bad, given the caliber of car which these engines are mated to. My 740i (N62B40TU) is going for valve stem seals at BMW (including head gaskets) for just under R9k.

If you want a roadster that doesn't really loose value, do yourself a favor and go test drive a Mazda MX5 before you act on any preconceived ideas.
It swayed me on 3 occasions going back and forth between Mx5, ///M car, Mx5, ///M car, Mx5. This is my current one:

Just forget about all the previous ones and opt for the 2.0L with the power retractable hard top (2007 onwards).

RWD, LSD, 6spd man box, 50:50 weight distribution, low centre of gravity, double wishbone suspension in front, 5 link suspension in the rear, quick steering rack and a rev happy engine....

Interesting...

I agree with the other comments here of looking for an M6 convertible if it has to be a 6 series convertible.

Then the 650i

And then only the 645i

In that light, only the 650i remains, because:

You dont want the SMG.
You already revealed the 645i is an autotragic.

.... therefore the 650i must be a manual:rollsmile:

The pros of the 650i outweigh the pros of the 645i, I think you have your answer.
My dad had steering issues with his 545i, it would chuck CHF onto the garage floor every now and then. It went to bmw a few times for it and eventually my dad got fed up and replaced it with the 550i and never looked back. The 550i is my mom's car now and still going strong, fantastic car!

As a cruiser luxo barge the 7er is the way to go. Irritatingly you have to search high and low for things like heated seats...let alone dynamic and cooled ones.

The 6ers all have heated seats at least :) Even though mine had some issues I loved the car. It was my first ever convertible. Realistically I will drive the 7er until the current 6er gets a facelift and then shop for a pre-facelift. The verts are already touching R500k.

Lastly, F01 7ers, fully specked can now be had for as little as R380k.
