Bmw 340i thoughts /problems??

I am thinking about buying a 2016 b58 340i.

Any known problems? Or things to look out for?

Prices seem to differ allot -(imo some people are crazy and way over book value)

Currently I have a 400kw++ kw e90 lci n54
So I hope it lives up to what I'm use to after a hybrid turbo and bolt ons + fuel pump and meth.

Anyone on here running big power on a b58?

B58 is a lot newer than the N54 and N55, so typically you'd find less of them and it was only introduced in 2015 / 2016, so most are only coming out of motorplan now - if they are not extending.

So chances are, not that many who have done mods to their B58 cars, unlike with the N54 and N55 cars. Also economy and covid, spending habits are not the same as previously for a lot of people, so once again mods may be less common compared to the 2000's / early 2010's

There is some issues with the them
Stock or modded their has been cases of them breaking pistons.

One of the other threads discussed them getting a update on their software to detune them slightly for our conditions

Yup, was done to mine. I can't say it's a massive difference, but surely noticeable.

Moddedd is another story.

Having the 340i now and having a moded n54 previously.
B58 for the win.....Both stock turbo and i have run my quickest time ever in the 340i with minimal mods compared to the n54.

Most common issues are coolant loss (Either the expansion tank cap needs to be replaced or a stone hit the radiator).
oil filter needs to be changed regularly, they end up breaking in the housing when trying to remove.

Like previously stated, there was engines that went boom and it was noted to be due to poor quality fuel in SA and general fueling limitations.

Tu pump sorts out the fueling to an extent and then you get proper upgrades. I felt that the new update by BMW removed mid and high power. Felt really crap. I did software and downpipe, different animal now.
Lots of new exciting mods are starting to show up for b58 recently so im sure there's going to be lots to come from these engines.

Thanks for your comments this is some good info, I have also heard of the expansion tank and loss of coolant apparently due to the coolant cap design.

What software did you do? And are you running ethanol beacuse if the fuel is to crappy for a stock tune then a stage 2 tune would surely pull allot of timing and be dangerous on pump only?

If I buy a 340i I want to do a downpipe, supra b58 hpfp, stage 2 walbro 535, fmic, meth and a hybrid turbo similar to the pure 800 option, with Coilovers and a custom mhd flash and Xhp stage 3.

I have a friend in the uk doing this and he is making 524kw and draggy times of 100-200 in 4.8s on pump 93 octane and meth... No eth lol

I have been daily driving on e40 and meth for the last 2 years so it's no issue for me to add some octane 😬😬😬

He has been driving it like that for almost 2 years with minimal issues... Makes me want one two

I have an Xcede pump flash, downpipe and TU Pump.

The flash caters for ETH mix when im racing otherwise im on pump fuel most of the time.

These cars are so consistent. No funny missfire, jerks or those pesky error codes. Jump in and drive.
I love driving it.

Xcede pretty much has it down on these B58s which is why i went with them. They dint just flash and release. They spent a few days logging and fine tuning custom to my car to get it perfect for me when I fetched.

So how does the flash cater for eth without a reflash? Or it running unsafe on pump only if the map is made for eth?

I'm planning on getting it custom tuned by someone I know since I will go for a hybrid turbo with meth and e40 if I do buy a b58. Just don't want to be disappointed in it as my n54 is a beast now

There is no front mount intercooler for these b58s like u are used..they use a water to air intercooler which sits In the Intake manifold.. U can get the csf or tiehr brabd upgraded radiator though which serves a similar purpose to cool down coolant flow to that water to air chambers..
