Hi Guys i am a "newy" to BMW Fanatics forum. i bought a 2007 323i about a month ago and have had it in to a BMW Specialist to run tests and reset alarms and complete service. i was informed that the VANOS SOLENOIDS were faulty and needed replacing . Prior to this i was running on one solenoid as the engine would not run properly. On replacing solenoids with new ones NOT second hand ones and on starting engine it ran rough. iswitch off fro a few minutes and tried again, same result very rough. On third attempt it settled down and started running smoothly. Itook it for a long run and back home no problem. About a half hour later neede to go to shop and BOOM would not idle and then very irratic idling-- hunting. I disconnceted one ssolenoid at a time and still same result. Where to i look next Advice please.
regards

The solenoids control oil flow to the vanos to advance and retard the cams.
By disconnecting the solenoids you are achieving rough idle so please do not do that.

You need to get diagnostics done on the engine and the error codes and descriptions will guide you.
