Hi Guys,

I am new joiner to forum.

I have recently bought used BMW 320i 2008 model.
Please suggest on below if possible -

1) when I check the Service information , its showing me to service in 3100 km , for last one month. I think I drove car around 1000 Km's now. but still it shows 3100Km for service.
Please suggest if this is correct or I need to do some reset.

2) I went to one shop for battery check , they told to change the battery. I don't see any warning on BMW information display monitor. however I don't see any problem while starting the car during day. In morning there is slight delay. but its not bad.
They told it should be 529 and its 379 something. I don't know exact unit of measurement. Please suggest if I need to change the battery. If yes which is good brand for battery and which is good shop?

Regards,
Raju

HI Raju

Congrats on the new car. Don't be to bothered about the service reading. The car works it out on your driving style and not exact kilometers. It is however time to serivce. As for the battery i wish i had better advice but the guys who made the car knew best so i would suggest getting a standard size battery, people try and save money by installing a cheaper battery. Take out your current battery and keep it one side for a solar panel at home

Hi Raju,

As Bmwed says about the kilometers, don't warry about it as it doesn't reflect true kilometers, like saying it is due in 3100km isn't saying it is due then, that kilometers can climb or drop during your driving. Race it like you stole it and you will see that 3100km saying 700km before you get home or drive it normal and responsible and you might be able to get 5000 physical kilometers from it before you have to service. But it depends on your driving skill as Bmwed said. But be sure the car will tell you when it is time to be serviced.

Battery, well I had to change mine a couple of months ago and ended up with buying it from BMW as it was like R70 difference and didn't want to sit with a headache of did I buy the right battery. So i have a 80ah battery in my car, Battery centre asked R1650 for a 72ah battery and bmw charge me R1720 for the original 80ah battery. See where I am coming from, but be prepared to pay R1500 up for the battery and don't go cheap (remember you only replace the battery like once or maybe twice in the time you have the car)

With my previous e90 320i i went to Battery Mark in boksburg and n bought the correct size battery for less than R800. It was an USAKA, i know the name sound bad but i never had any issues, had it in for 2 years then sold the car

Welcome,

Dont forget to introduce yourself and post pics of the car.

Services are conditions based, so the car decides based on various sensors. I have done a return trip to Durban without it dropping.

I chose to go with VARTA Battery which exceeded the OEM spec, but i got it cheaper. Do your research, double check specs and prices/

Hi Guys ,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

I got quote of 1050R for SBAT 652 battery. I don't know how many volt it is.

Is there any way to check if there is some thing wrong with battery alternator.

My BMW still has got original BMW battery , so most probably its battery , but some one suggested me to have it checked for alternator as well.

Thanks !!

Well for that I use Gert (Ratslaaf@obdworx) as he is our tech man  here in Gauteng.

Maybe try and pm him for some advice, he is extremely good with this stuff, makes me feel like a kindergarden child :fencelook:
