Hi guys glad to be part of this group :) im new on here as i have recently purchased a 2000 BMW 320d, only issue is that although she drives lovely and smooth there is minimal boost :( when i go up a hill in 3rd i have to change down to 2nd as it feels completely flat and no turbo response. Ive cleaned out the EGR hoping that would solve it but no luck. My mate has checked all the pipes and reckons there are no splits etc. the car itself only has 110k on the click and near on full BMW service history, the guy i bought it off of said he thought it was a non turbo as its been the same since he's owned it for the last 4 years. My mate located the turbo and there is a little movement on the impellers but not a great deal, no wear etc. would really be grateful for responses as im sure other pple have had the same issues and obviously your all clearly quite clued up. Thank you for your time

Have u tried sticking it on a dyno to actually see the torque curve? Just to give u an idea of where the fault might be?

Otherwise do a diagnostic test.

Maybe try speaking to an aftermarket turbo specialist if the agents hurt the pocket to much.

Just a suggestion....
I can't say that I have any experience with turbo diesels other than knowing that the pull strong in any gear above 1500/2000rpm.

check the vacuum hoses from the turbo ... also if u get some diagnostics u can check the charge pressure compared to std values to see how far you are off...

If the turbo has not been running for 4 years, you would have to strip off the turbo and clean it as the vanes would be carboned up and most probably locked up.

NOTE: NO recon of the turbo is required unless it really is busted, but open up the vnt vane side, remove all the vanes and clean them.

Cleaning would ensure that the vnt vanes are moving freely.

Swop out ALL the vacuum lines and make sure they are put back in the correct positions.

Not sure about the 2000 model's cats, but remove them while you are at it.

Blank the EGR. (1mm plate at the exhaust manifold side)

Remove the swirl flaps.
