That looks like an old photo of the M235i.

The M2 has 4 pipes at the back and there are already images released of the car.

Yes there are some pics on Wheels24 under spy shoots and it has 4 pipes

They are indeed spy shots of the ///M2.
They have at least 4 test mules that have been spotted already, I think one of which (white one) has 4 pipes, the rest sport this configuration but with different wheels. They all have the M235i racing flared fenders though, as does this one pictured.

Though the twin-turbocharged N54 inline-6 used in the 1 Series M Coupe is internally identical to the 2,979-cc unit used in many other BMW models, it does feature specific engine software and a unique exhaust system, both developed by BMW M GmbH. These enhancements, combined with an increase in maximum turbo boost from 0.6 bar (8.7 psi) to 0.8 bar (11.6 psi), raise maximum horsepower from 306 hp (DIN)/300 hp (SAE) @ 5,800 rpm to 340 hp (DIN)/335 hp (SAE) @ 5,900 rpm. Maximum torque increased from 300 lb-ft to 332 lb-ft, and this figure is maintained between 1,500 rpm and 4,500 rpm. In addition, an overboost function provides up to 369 lb-ft of torque for short durations. The only item that distinguishes this version of the N54 cosmetically is the "Powered by BMW M" identification on its valve cover.

1M was the first M-car I knew of without an S-designated engine and to my knowledge also did not have anything in the VIN about being an M-car.

On the other hand M-cars are not just about the engine and the 1M is an absolute joy to drive and in my mind one of the best modern M-cars. The chassis modifications with the E92 M3 diff makes it and absolute smile factor deluxe plus it looks great.

So in my opinion M-cars are far more about the chassis and steering than about the engine (although the engine must play with as well) in the modern age.

The front red car seems to have the fenders moulded?
