hi guys
can some one please tell me what are the common problems with a BMW 318i 2L e46 2004 model?

I am a university/collage student and so is it a good idea to buy a BMW 318i e46 ?

Is there a better option than a BMW 318i e46 because i will be running it in a budget?

Im looking for a fuel efficient car so it healthier for my wallet with a bit of power so its not completely boring to drive. (around 1.8L - 2.2L max)

P.S. i live in New Zealand, if that makes any difference. :)
thanks.

Wait for Gizmo to reply before you buy.
Short answer is yes. Although I'm not sure what a better alternative will be in New Zealand.

I would stay away. That engine is notoriously problematic. Rather find a 6 cylinder model or a prefacelft 318i

I would steer clear of the 4cyl facelift, the prefacelift is much more reliable.
Rather get a 6 pot in the facelift model. 320i, 325i or 330i will be cool.

Crank sensors, lower control arm bushes, valvetronic motor thingies, valve stem seals.

Gizmo you have the floor.

Trawl this forum for a posts / maybe a thread by "zaleonardz" - the list of parts he replaced was scary, and still the car was problematic.

Would look at something else to be honest.
