Good morning good people!
I'm in quite a squeeze right now. I'm in the Jhb area.
Last weekend on Saturday night I got a "oil level low" indicator as I got home. Sunday morning as I was driving after about 15km, I got a "Coolant level low" indicator. 100m down the line, between robots, I lost power, nothing was happening in gear 3 as i was pushing the accelerator and in neutral the revs would only reach about 1500rpm. Then I got a "Transmission overheating" indicator. At this stage the Shell garage was right in front of me. So I crawled in in gear 1. Opened up the bonnet and there was oil and water mixture spilage all over the place.
Got the car towed to a BMW Auto and long story short they quotd me R8k to replace the Heat Exchange and to do an Oil Service, basically flush out all the oil and replace it with new oil. Then on the Monday they call and say the hot oil got in all the wrong places and just burned ish up. Thus SPAN things must be replaced. Pipes, water pump, radiators, etc. Everything to do with the cooling system, even the air conditioner. And quoted me R42k
Now while I understand that hot oil going through parts designed for water can mess things up, it is tough to believe that everything must just be replaced and nothing is repairable. Is there someone out there who can assist ??
