BMW 1 Series 120d E87 Wont Start

Hi guys

I have a problem with my BMW 1-Series 120d 2005 E87. After having my car washed yesterday at home, I parked the car in the garage and about an hour later I had to go somewhere. I started the car and it started fine, just as I reversed out of the garage, the car turned off and showed a red circled icon with an exclamation mark in the center. I then noticed some smoke coming from the bonnet and gave a burning smell. :bawling:

I don't know much about cars or what could have caused this. Is there anyone that can tell me what could be the problem? I tried starting the car now and it's trying to start but not going through. I cant take my car to bmw at the moment as I simply can't afford it. Any help is much appreciated as I'm so stressed out now as this is my only means to work and home.

Thanks guys

The burning smell/smoke, how much of it was there, and could you see where it came from.

It sounds as though you fried something. You would need to have codes read on the car.

I would normally say that it may be due to the water, and just leaving the car for a few hours in the sun would sort this, but if you actually saw smoke and smelt burning, I think your about to have a seriously sucky day :(

If your ignition is still working, and the car appears to be otherwise "normal" (cluster, bla bla bla), you did not pop the computer outright, which is a good thing, but as said, you will need diagnostics.

Where are you located ?

Hey Zaleonardz

The smoke came the front of the bonnet where the window is. It's no longer coming up.

I too believe its due to the water as this happened after the car has been washed. I just had the car reversed into the sun now with the bonnet open. So I'm hoping that it will work.

My ignition is working, so is that radio, windows and car lock.

I'm located in Bluedowns Eersteriver

Dont drive/push the car. Get someone to check the car at home, urgently!

I got someone to checkout the car at home, no success in that. I now need to have the car towed to Forsdicks BMW :bawling::bawling::bawling:

I agree with that. But take it to Donford's Stellenbosch they will take special care of your car. I know it will cost money but dont take electrical problems lightly especially since you saw smoke coming from the engine bay.

Hi Every1

Only managed to get internet access now to send out a HUGE & EXTREMELY MUCH APPRECIATED THANK YOU to the anonymous BMW Fanatics member who paid my bill at Zeemax to have my 1-Series repaired. For the last 2 weeks I have been in a total mess from not having my car by my side. I missed a couple a days of work and stressing on the sideline as to how I am going to pay the costs of having my 1-Series fixed.

Rashaad at Zeemax arranged some1 to pick me up from work yesterday in Rondebosch and take me to Zeemax to collect my car. Throughout the drive to Zeemax, I couldnt stop thinking of how fortunate and blessed I am.

As I drove home from Zeemax, I was in tears just thanking God for this moment in having the oppertunity to be mobile again and for the anonymous member to save me from a nightmare of not being mobile...

THANK YOU once again

William (B1gw1ll)
