So yesterday on my way back to CT from Paarl, with my boss in the car, I had a blow out on my left front, pretty much a brand new Pilot Sport tyre :thumbdo:
Sat on the side of the freeway for 4 hours waiting for Europ Assist to send a flat bed to take me back to Paarl. When I got to Paarlberg BMW (who were brilliant by the way), took the wheel off but couldn't see any holes, tears or anything in the tyre. The tech had a closer look, and low and behold, in the tiny gap between the tyre and the rim, there was a 5cm vertical tear.I couldn't believe it. So now, R4600 later (still have to go back to Paarl this morning) I have to replace a pretty much brand new tyre.
What amazed me,when the tyre went, the car just gave a little shimmy to let me know something was wrong (this happened at speed about 30km/h over the limit :fencelook
and I cruised to the side of the road without drama. I couldn't believe how well the car handled the issue.
So just wanted to find out,has anyone else had something similar happen on a Michelin tyre before? Just glad it didn't happen along a mountain pass or something!
