Look for original Osram 4300k bulbs online. Don't go for the other brands (except Philips). I read a long study a while ago showing the lifetime results of different brands. It was quite shocking to see the factor 10 difference between Osram&Philips and the others. Also don't go for a different tint, 4300K is the optimal temp and others don't illuminate the visible range as well and also can't be made as bright.
I think the dealer quote is so high because when the dealers replace a xenon bulb they also replace the ballast and igniter, still crazy expensive though.
After months and months of searching, I found the original Phillips D1S bulb for less the R850.00. This is the cheapest price in South Africa. Autozone didn't have the bulbs. With the help of an Osram sales lady, I found a company called Trysome CC(heavy duty and mining specialists) in Jetpark which sells these bulbs. It turns out those underground mining lamps use the same bulbs. I hope others will find this useful.
