Morning Fellow Fanatics.

It's come to that time of my cars life where I need to have a full respray done. This is just the start of the full restore as I have lots still to do.

I'm looking for the best (Cost conscious and workmanship quality dependent) place to have a respray done in Cape town. Please note I want to keep it the original BMW Dakar yellow II.

Suggestions please?

We had bad work done @ automagic Rivonia. They could not even spray a bumper, redid it 5 times & it still peeled. that was my sister E36. My E36 they did the front bumper & had to redo it 3 times until my dad got fed up & told them he is going & not paying..

Whats so bad that the whole car needs to be resprayed? That car should be non cleared so you can do alot to revive it.

Carefull, you really need to find a decent pro as a bad respray will do more damage than leaving it alone.

The yellow has faded bad and there are a few spots of rust on the bonnet (above the head lights), smaller rust mark by the rear spoiler and was told that there is a small spot of rust under the windscreen when I had it replaced a year ago.

It faded bad, cos when the EX took her she left the bloody car outside for weeks... possibly months. :censored: :banghead:

It was parked under some tree that I now want to go hack down, as it left little brown pit marks in the paintwork. Like little pock marks of an 15yr old acne victim! :cursin:

My goal is to get the car back to show room condition. So... a full blow over is my next step.... then to APS for the suspension and engine... then to Mag Repair for the buckled rims thanx to her 19yr old brother, then to have the interior and roof lining redone (Ex's dad left the sun roof popped up during a winter storm) and drivers leather repaired/Replaced. (Didnt rick540 have some sick stitching skills?) Theeeeeeeeennnn..... repair the chew marks from my boerbul/rotti on the side skirt! :)mmm: )

So I have a long road ahead... All the assistance would be appreciated!

Whats the color of your interior? And current headliner? If interior is black & headliner grey, get the headliner redone in black suade. Will look awesome.

Good luck with the transformation back to Showroom condition (or better than that) Keep us updated with pics :)

And rick540i does have some awesome leather skills, If you got the time to wait & the money to pay I am sure he will gladly do it for you & it will turn out really awesome

It's exactly that! :) I want the grey gone and the full black interior. have seen it on another e36 in Dakar yellow, and it looks awesome! Agreed!

Will do the before pics and document as best as possible. (I will attempt to do as good job as MattQ is with Jezz! :p )

If it was me, I would first climb in there with a good detail, then determine what needs to be resprayed. Ol Minimike19 could do the detail for you. Granted you will still need to fix the minor rust spots, but I am convinced she would not need an entire respray.

To do it properly, they will need to strip the entire car down as far as humanly possible. That in itself is plenty of time, and time is money.

We did my moms e30 325i about 15 years ago. This was done by stripping the car down as far as possible. I think it took more than a month to do the car (no panelbeating involved).

Still today, you won't know that it has been resprayed. ask Rick540, he saw it a few weeks ago.

My point is, if you want to go all out, it is gonna take a hell of a lot of time and money.

Point taken, and in agreement. I will take some high res pics and post them as soon as i can. Then let me know if it is a "GO!" or a "NO!, Go straight to the spray booth!"

Thanx!
