Best diagnostic tool for e36

Got an e36 328 and I'm looking to buy a diagnostic tool to check and make sure everything in the car still works 100% I hate paying someone to do it because its expensive and I would rather do it myself

Apparently any OBDII tool should work, the challenge is finding a decent one, plenty on ebay but it's hot and miss if they'll work on your particular vehicle.
