Best advanced driving course?

Hey everyone,

My father in law wants to take his family (including me :) ) on an advanced driving course. As I'm the only car-nut in the family, he asked me to look at the options. I have done the BMW skidpan and anti-highjack course a couple of years ago, and to be honest, it was very disappointing. Didn't feel like I learned much. We basically did max 20 runs on the skidpan and that was it. It wasn't close to highway speeds and it was over before I felt confident that I had mastered the techniques.

So I'm looking for a course to do skid-pan and high-speed driving which doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I have narrowed down the options to:

http://adrenalindriving.co.za/advanced-driving/

and

http://www.vw.co.za/en/volkswagen_world/volkswagen_drivingacademy/performance_drivingcourses.html

Does anyone have any experience with these courses? I'm leaning towards the VW course. BMW's equivalent (Advanced High Performance) costs almost R1000 more than VW's.

The advanced driving courses vary but if you go for the full day ones, I would suggest going with a similar brand of car that you currently have or own. I have been on the BMW course twice, once with a M3 and with the 330i. My father and brother have been with the Merc Dynamic Driving course. That being said, the price may be steep but there are alot of things that are covered in full day courses.

After you see what they do to those cars, you understand why they charge so much for the course. Lunch is normally included in the course as well. I would rate Merc and BMW as very good courses. I am sure that VW and the like also have excellent courses.

The Audi one covered a lot, dynamic handling, high speed - used to be run at Kyalami but not sure with the goings on of the track being liquidated/sold..... etc.
Also done the VW one and its along the same lines as Audi. The problem with the BMW one is that they are split into different courses, high speed - dynamic handling - anti high jack. The other two mentioned combine high speed and handling

Thanks for the replies guys. The VW course is still at Kyalami, so I think Audi will still be there as well. I'll take a look at Audi's course as well.

The problem is everyone in the family except for myself drives bakkies or SUV's. So no matter what course we go for it will be different to the vehicles most people drive with every day. That said, maybe it will be better to go for a driving course with RWD cars as the handling characteristics will be closer to a bakkie/SUV.
