Hi guys. With my e92 on the brink of 160k I am looking to have some key things done as preventative maintenance. Was thinking of sourcing the parts from Beeline Spares and then having my technician just do the install, but I am new to this and see that their parts are non-OEM. Can one rely on their parts or is there a better alternative for things like gaskets, VANOS Solenoids etc?

Much obliged!

Are they not a scrap yard selling used parts?

I would recommend either buying OE parts or OEM directly from BMW - their prices are often surprisingly reasonable. Goldwagen does stock some OE parts (Lemforder, Bosch etc) otherwise try Diesel Electric, Imcomex, ZF etc

Life is too short for cheap parts!

Thanks for that. I spoke to my technician and he also said he'll just source from BMW as they give him good discount then we know it's OEM and good for another 160k.

My car had a proper service at 155k so I'm thinking I can probably push to 165k and then do all of this when it goes in for an oil service anyways. I know these items are recommended at a 100k miles but I trust that given it has had a religious service history I will be fine up to 165k. It's not like the car is showing any symptoms that warrant these things done - it's purely preventative on my side.

Good practice to check the dealer first for parts pricing. There are certain things that Goldwagen does better (Wipers, cabin filters, bulbs, various fluids etc). There are also cheaper brands that you can go for as equivalent parts. However in my case I'd want to buy from the same manufacturer that does the OE part. In that case, they are seldom significantly cheaper (on M cars anyway).

Even where parts shops are cheaper, if the gap is not too different it's just easier to get it from the dealer especially if you're buying a bunch of other things anyway.

BMW: Deago and Shaun (when he was still there) were always better than Goldwagen be it coils, pumps, plugs or large assemblies
Porsche: I now have Cameron: Once again somehow cheaper (albeit by a few rands) than Goldwagen for the majority of what I've looked for so far.
Alfa: Also (I kid you not) cheaper than Goldwagen on the things I've double checked pricing on (Plugs, coils, filters)

I think if you have something like an Audi where parts prices at dealers are through the roof you can make a saving.

Either way, I find that relying solely on a dealer, indie or parts shop doesn't work - you have to perpetually cross shop. Eg: BMW oil service on certain cars is now no longer as inexpensive as it once was. At some point it was a no-brainer to send your car to the dealer for oil services.
