Beamer - Trade In Values

Hello All,

I drive a 2011, E90, 320d, LCI, auto, Innovation model and recently took my car to a garage as I was thinking of trading it on on another car,

They are only offering me R65000 for my vehicle as this is the book value but when you go look on Auto Trader you find similar vehicles being sold for anything between R150 000 - R180 000 meaning that they will only make a small profit of R100 000 on the vehicle :smilebounce:

a) Are these guys trying to scam me?
b) or is this normal for BMW's = Not keeping their value?

Cheers.

Yeah no, if you're selling for 65k then contact me :smilebounce:

You can get much more for your car provided its a "no-nonsense" vehicle.

I am offering R65100 :fencelook:

Those cars are still in the R100ks. If the car is in good condition and not a rebuild then you are being scammed.

Thanks, the car is like you said a "no-nonsense" vehicle, went down to the South Coast with her last month and she she still gives me 20km/l in the freeway :praise:

Full service history with the stamps to proof it,

Hence the reason for my question - Should I accept R65000 for my vehicle or should I walk away :dunnoanymore:

Hello,

Where do you see that the car is still in the R100 000 range? :ty:

I would definitely be smiling if they offer me in the R100 000's for my car.

It might be like I mentioned depending on the condition of the car and milage but these are the round about going for price. Maybe post the details of the car in THIS Thread and @Tris might get you some values

You're getting knocked for a six because of the mileage.

What 'major' maintenance has been done on the car? You're better off trying to sell it privately if it is still clean and all the preventative stuff is done on it.

Hi JuanRothner,

You are not alone bud. I have a 2011 320i with 98000kms on the clock. I was also offered R 65k as a trade in by SMG and the car is in very good condition, no comments, new shocks, tyres, valve stem seals and FSH with BMW.

I think BMW dealerships in general try and make too much money off a deal. I then went to another car dealer and asked them what they would offer me to buy the car outright and I was offered R 105k.

It boggles my mind how the brand you support tries to do you in.

Anyway, just my 2c worth.....

From what i've experienced, BMW offers you the trade-in price instead of retail, they don't really take into account the mileage of the car if the mileage is low ,condition and all of the options .They only check the year, model , transmission and most popular options of the car

for example , I took my 135i last week to see what SMG would offer, they offered me R170k , my car has 53 000km , my salesman only checked if the car had M-Sport pack , xenons , sunroof and that's all that they checked apart from whether its manual or auto. So if a car with higher mileage with the same options and year as my car came in , they would get offered the exact same price.

This is from my experience , maybe other dealerships would be more appreciative of the spec and condition of your car and offer a better price or just sell it privately :=):

In my case I had three offers, two of R 100k, one of R 105k and BMW came in at R 65k.

Maybe they just don't like me as a client :roflol:

That is way too low.
Rather sell it on Gumtree. The prices range between R100 - 150k.
You'll get way more money selling it privately

:dunnoanymore: BMW are thieves full stop.

But seriously BMW has bad resell anyways, and they disregard all the optional extras GLWS. These 320d sell very well as they have a good name.

What ever you do dont try sell for what you paid :tiptoe: :roflol:

I was in a similar boat with my TT. Audi were lowballing me at 3 dealerships, even though I had purchased 3 new Audis in the past and besides the fact that my TT was featured in Audi Magazine. The car was a 2013 model and I was looking to trade in late 2017, early 2018 for a low miler 2.0 A4 TDI. Jaguar Bryanston gave me a really good offer, if I traded it in on a demo XE 2.0d. Basically Audi were staying put at 180k. Jag upped it to 210k, then to 225k when I seemed a bit reluctant after not really enjoying my extended test drive (they loaned me an XE for a weekend).
BMW Sandton offered 190k for trade in on a 320d bare bones spec, brand new for R480k.

Then, by total chance, I saw on Cars.co.za a well kitted 320d msport, less than 50km on clock and less than 3 months old for 460k. It was at BMW Autobahn, all the way in Kempton Park. Without seeing my TT, but showing them the Jaguar valuation, they offerred me 225k, subject to no accident history. I saw the car on Tuesday and bought it on Saturday in the 2nd week of Jan.

Moral of the story - shop around and don't be afraid to try different brands (even different dealers of the same brand).
