2002ti Durban
New member
Hey Guys and girls,
Firstly what a fantastic site.I have already learned heaps off this site alone, especially regarding 2002's !
Have been battling to post so hopefully this time it sticks.
I have just purchased a 1968 0r 69 2002 which i thought just had the ti badge and a lot of racing equipment fitted, until i opened the bonnet and found more interesting goodies, especially the original chassis tag stating 2002ti with vin no.1692292 and engine no.1820537.
This car has been sitting in a garage for the last six years after the gearbox got jammed in first gear and the owner removed said gearbox but never repaired. The only history i know of this car is that it raced local hillclimbs and short circuit racing in late 90's - early 2000's.
Condition of the care besides the peeling paintwork and damage on both doors is suprisingly good. There is no sign of rust in the boot or floorpan and chassis is solid.
The car has been modified with:
Widened arches and rims
Pair of old sparco race seats with Lucas 3 point harnesses.
Momo steering wheel.
Rear square tail lights have been added, very neatly too.
The bonnet has vents on both sides( no signs of fabrication), and i have not seen this on any other 02 ?
She has the clocks with red needle adjuster on the rev counter.
45 Side draft webers, and a pretty looking branch that the steering shaft passes through.
NOW, HERE'S THE THING ...................
She is RHD. Yes this 2002ti is right hand drive !
And NO she has not been converted i have checked thoroughly !!!
I am really hoping to find more of the early history of this car as i believe that only a few were made in New Zealand , hopefully someone on here can help ?
I am hoping to revive this golden oldie to be the race car they were back then and race her here in our historic class.
I will be very grateful for any positive feedback or advise.
Regards
Sean
