Absolutely sad, very unexpected given the circumstances :dunnoanymore:

You have absolutely no idea what the next person is going through and I personally believe there is a solution for every problem. Having lost a few friends this way, its important to stress the need for constantly maintaining good mental health. I think the site below can assist those in need;

Maybe if admin can get that stickied and it's own thread as well. We as bmwfanatics can create more awareness of this.

Hey Guys,

Depression / Anxiety (very often linked to each other) is hectic. It's very difficult to manage and I actually think more difficult with men than women. Men are hard wired to be the tough guy thats unbreakable etc etc.

I've been there, I've felt like I was drowning. But I go help, its not a showing of weakness to take yourself to therapy / doctor for it and get the help you need. If anything its a sign of strength within yourself to recognize you need the help and to reach out for it.

Its quite often the people that seem the happiest and most okay that are the ones struggling the most. Take some time to show other people some kindness and compassion, you never know the difference and impact you can have on other people's lives.

100%.

always watch people closely as well, sometimes people give off small signs that help is needed. alot of the time, depression stops the very thing that causes people to ask for help easily, so just a little observation can go a long way.

I have heard that Barry Hilton suffers terribly with depression?? It may be urban legend and I don't know the man personally.

To echo RAA.... I have been right to the very edge....I put the gun in my mouth and if my 9month old daughter had not started to cry when she did, I would not be here..:dunnoanymore:

I firmly believe that the Good Lord in His wisdom intervened that day.... I realised what I had to do and why I was here. It can be terribly lonely in this world and we live with daily stress be it work, violent crime, financial stress it all goes into the mix....

I am not ashamed to say that I take medication to control anxiety. It keeps me sane and able to be the best I can be for my family.

If my sharing this helps only one person I would put that in the win column.

Be safe and look after yourselves and one another Fanatics

This a great idea @HardM3.

One of the other forums I am on has a thread dedicated to this and I think its been really helpful to those who may need it as well as to spread awareness.

Great idea this in fact.

I have also been on the edge.

8 months of unemployment after pushing for five years plus for the same company, 55 hour weeks, being fed absolute bulldust, treated like pond scum......it takes its toll.

Many an interview, also going through meetings with the MEIBC and such like........

Then having the same company rep not even bother to confirm that I at least worked for the company.......

Being involved in a relationship with someone that was not the most stable of individuals just added to frustrations.

There were many a time when the barrel of that .45 looked mighty fine.....however what stopped me was my son and knowing how much of a disappointment I would have been to him.

These days things have turned around, not to say that they have turned around entirely but things are shifting positively. Just need to keep on pushing on.

I totally support this venture.

Hey there guys..
I'm not going to make this about me,
But I've been doing some life skills training for the last seven years and have real life experience to deal with the heartache life throws at us.
In the last year I've been writing topics from how to beat depression to avoiding bullying etc etc. There's about 27 so far.
I plan on starting a blog soon.
I'll keep you guys posted on that.

With regards to depression.
It's a huge battle we have to start bringing more awareness to.
In my opinion I would think more than 60% of the population deals with some kind of anxiety/ depression.
In short for now all i can say that the root cause of all negative emotions is fear.. eg..
- Fear to lose an income leads to depression.
- Fear to lose your partner leads to depression..

Another quick one, taking anti depressants isn't going to help if the root cause of the issue is not addressed, it will actually lead to unwanted side effects.

I hope to help in the near future..

Mental health is such a complex area to navigate because of the social stigma surrounding it. Many suffer in total secrecy to the very end because of this. We need more open conversations like these to help create awareness of people's experiences and what help is available and where. It's very courageous of HardM3 to have raised this on such a forum. Thank you all for sharing your experiences as this will help ease the burden on someone somewhere afflicted by depression and anxiety, to know they're not alone. Most people who are depressed esp men tend to deny they are for many reasons, until it's too late. Getting people to seek help is probably the hardest thing I've had to deal with. So if depressed men on here can read this thread they will at least know its not a weakness, its not a women's illness, it's not unmanly to be depressed. It's human. It's human to go thru such emotions- most people bounce back without treatment, some need treatment and it's ok.

Just something else to add.

This thought suddenly popped into my head whilst responding to another thread.

One does not realize the effect social media has on your mental health right up until you decide to unplug yourself.

In my eight months of last year which mo3red me hard, I started realizing that social media was making me mentally unhappy.

I used to be on almost all the platforms.......and then I had my epiphany.

Now I am only on Insta and o youtube - youtube for how to's, reviews etc etc - viewing only, not posting.

I am also on twitter but only to view the Motogp updates and News24.

Social media can play a massive part in how you subconsciously feel.

These days, if someone wants to know how I am doing or I want to know how that person is doing, I go OG and make a plan to meet up and talk face to face.

Since I pulled my head out of social media, I hardly touch my phone when at home or in a social setting with loved ones. I now sit watching them glued to their screens - and thats the scary part. :fencelook:

I think you need to realise what makes you happy in this world and focus on that. We all make mistakes and sometimes take us longer to learn from them, but the important thing is that we learn and move on and dont get drawn into depression or a state of unhappiness because of the past or current circumstances. Very easy to say, i know. Focus on the positives in life...and speak to people, it does help.
